Here’s what Sweet actually said in the programme

There are reasons to feel frustrated with the club’s transfer activity over the past two windows without making stuff up.
Here is what Gary Sweet actually said, rather than it being typed up by a dimlow who doesn’t know how to do cut-and-paste properly. (Granted, there are two small typos here too.)

Giles was way off first choice, and now he's rocking the Hull boat so's he can get back to Boro.
Barkley was either going to crash and burn ( in which case we'd have lost him, and his wage money) or reignite his career. That he did, earned us £5m and is now rightly playing in the Prem.
The other two were loans, and back with their parent club, as it should be.
What we do not know is if they may return ( as it should be, or a bidding war may start)
Hope that helps ease the pain and disappointment of an already failed season 😑

Sadly I think we have a good idea about whether the loans will return or not.

Lokonga signed for Sevilla and Kabore is apparently (rumours of course) on the radar of Spurs and Roma among others.

As I said yesterday, his point that we kept 10 of the 14 signings from last season is a bit strange. Yes we have kept 10 of the 14 (surely we shouldn't be losing more than that anyway, even with a relegation), but those 4 are Barkley, Giles, Lokonga and Kabore. 3 of those were first choice starters.
We've also lost Osho and Lockyer, two starting cbs. We've also then lost Berry, who was a squad option.

They've been replaced by Holmes, Walters, Hashioka and Baptiste.

Holmes is so highly thought of he can't get a game in central defence above two teenage wings back.

So we're 4 light - 2 midfielders two replace Lokonga and Berry, one more CB

I also think we need a lwb as I'm not sure Johnson playing there has the same effect as doughty, and we have no other replacement.

I'm not fussed if Townsend does go because I'm not sure where he fits in the team anyway

Agree we are light but you shouldn't downplay the significance of keeping hold of so many of last year's signings. I doubt many were confident that we'd still have all of Doughty, Adebayo, Morris, Mengi and Kaminski at this stage.

We were bound to lose the others, two were loans, one didn't feature for us after the first few games and the other was Barkley and I doubt anyone really expected him to stay.

To keep the rest is likely quite an investment in itself and not something that many were predicting. That part would represent a major success in terms of this transfer window.

Again, I very much do agree that we look a bit light in places though especially with the uncertainty over the injured players. But you shouldn't dismiss the decent job that seems to have been done so far in terms of retention. In effect we haven't lost anybody out of those signings that wasn't a racing certainty to leave anyway.

I get what you mean, but 3 of the 5 you mentioned weren't signed this season.

Keeping the key players is obviously good, but not perhaps not a massive suprise given how poor we were overall last season.

The point though is that we're 4 players short and clearly having trouble getting people in for whatever reason

Hmmm, we were poor in the Premier League, no shock there. But better than a couple of teams who spent much more and each of those players were well thought of even in that division. Without the PL money still in play I'd wager we would have lost a couple of those . . .

We're agreed on that other point though.

2 wins in 18 is suggesting we have kept hold of superstars?
                This clearly isn’t the case
