Seems like a John Still Moment is Needed

The season in the Prem has messed with everybody's expectations. It seems as if the club is all over the place with what it thinks it should be, and is at risk of embarking on a downward spiral.

There seems to be 2 viable options from here:
    1. Invest and make a serious campaign to go straight back up.
    2. Restock, rebuild, and time our promotion push with PC.

I get the sense at the moment we're trying to navigate somewhere in between, and it'll leave us worse off and directionless.

If we don't invest and put together a serious promotion plan, the likes of Mengi, Doughty and Adebayo will be surely off sooner than later, and the fans and players will start losing faith and vision, further decreasing the chances of filling these holes.

If we are indeed planning on taking a slow season of rebuilding, then the club really needs to communicate this much better, so the fans come back on side, and the ground becomes more of a fortress again.

Talk of automatic promotion and 25k stadiums seems a bit condescending when we threw out half a development squad who got battered 4-1 at home. The narrative needs to be more about principles, realities, the value of nurturing youth, building to be more like Brentford, preparing for some uncomfortable results in the first month, etc, etc.

I feel like John Still would've recognised this, and felt the vibe of the club right now, and used it to steer the ship. We seem a bit off, a bit directionless, and without a true leader - both on the pitch and off it.

I remember John Still having a poor start in 13/14.

Try finding anyone now who'd admit to posting the vitriolic abuse he received back then, particularly after a limp defeat at Wrexham. There were plenty who wanted him driven out and assured us that we'd never get promoted with him at the club.

I think you are overanalysing it. When Bell, Nkamba, Burke, Mads, Clark and Brown return we will look a completely different side.

It's also likely we will also get another couple through the door before the window closes.

With a bit of fortune on the injury front we will be knocking on the play off door.

We are a well run club, looking to the future and trying not to gamble our windfall but there is no reason why we can't make play offs with the squad we have.

These comments about 'lack of leadership' will be soon forgotten once the team play in the way we know they can.

Ye but the likes of Burke and Anderson keep breaking down with injury , Anderson who I think would be great if fit, has been a disastrous signing , out virtually all last season and still injured and players coming in , one is Liam Walsh , a freebie , ye another one for the medical room, and yet we're letting quality like Townsend leave .

Firstly, the Liam Walsh speculation is based on him being seen in the ground. Could be any number of reasons behind that.

Both Burke and Anderson have played lots of games in their careers to date - not a sign of injury prone players. I will concede that Burke has had his share of hamstring injuries since joining us and hopefully the medical team are working on this but he has still played plenty of football.

Townsend is ok but nothing special. If he wants a final payday in Turkey, fair play to him.
