    Player by Player...

Kaminski - could possibly have done better with a couple. But huge credit in the bank no issue.

Johnson - Looks a fullback not a centre back. Wanders too much and looks to get forward. Good cover for fullback. Not a starter.

Walters - Did OK. Better fullback in would think than centre back. Probable starter at fullback and cover at centre back.

Mengi - Body language awful. Didn't look like he wanted to be there. Management need to decide if that's short term because of the team he is in at the moment or long term because he thinks he belongs in Prem.

Doughty - Did enough, but not as at it as early part of last year. Needs to feel his place is under threat.

Ogbene - Not a wing back. Waste of his pace on that position and not great defensively, but always willing. Needs to play further fforward.

Baptiste - Did well, good acquisition if he stays fit.

Nelson - Nice on the ball, good feet. Has a future but needs to work harder and be stronger out of possession.

Chong - Not sure what position he was playing. Good run into box for a tap in but little else of consequence. Has huge potential but not sure where he really plays.

Adebayo - Thought he did OK, but would have preferred more gambling on a run in behind or into the channel for a ball over the top.

Morris - Poor game. Too static, didn't hold the ball well. Needs service from wide into the box to attack.

Need to make some changes for next game.

Obviously need to be more solid with the backline being a 5 more often than a 3.

    Kam

    Walters
    Mengi
    Holmes
    Bell (if fit)
    Doughty

    Baptiste
    Clark (if fit)
    Chong

    Adebayo
    Morris

Assumed bell and Clark closest to being fit.

Why stick with a 3? It’s obviously not working.

I think it works for the players we have - it gets the best out of Doughty who I think would struggle as a LB. Once you put Bell as LCB, Mengi as CB and Burke as RCB, with Holmes as RB, that looks pretty good.

Add in Nakamba alongside Baptiste, and some combination of our forward players, and that's a top 6 side.

Holmes as RB? Jesus H Christ.

It worked very well for the 2 season we made play off. It is a flexible system and personally I like it, but since November we have not played it well.

On the transition to attack we are over committing and the 5 becomes 3. The 5 needs to become 4 either by only committing on one side and shuffling across or by a defensive mid holding and potentially dropping to allow the centre backs to move out towards fullback.

The Nakamba role is key which is why it's odd we haven't replaced. This allows both wing backs to get forward and this overload with more space / stretch.

Nothing wrong with the system- its worked perfectly OK for us. The problems are no Lockyer leader replacement. No Nakamba . And all 4 injury prone centre backs out at same time + Osho gone and no cover .

            Was Mengi 100% fit ?

Was Menghi 100% committed more like?

You know what its like- they pass ypu fit but you are not 100% happy yourself so you tend to go a bit steadier than you normally would.

Thought Mengi was actually pretty solid. Won his tackles and headers. He’s just not yet a leader of the defence which is what we’re sorely lacking.

I agree. It was a tough ask for him to be the leader of a defence at this stage. This time last year (if we'd even signed him by then!) he was very much 5th or 6th choice, so his rise has been impressive.
