Meltdown on here
Posted by Lord Bergenstein on 13/8/2024, 10:12:51
As someone who only really started reading/posting on this board about a year ago, was the meltdown always this extreme after a loss in the championship?
Last night was diabolical but staff more qualified than us will be going through the game in detail today looking what went wrong, and hopefully will see some changes on Saturday.
Hopefully last night is a one off freak result like the 5 0 to Birmingham.
Our next 2 games are against Preston and Portsmouth, two sides you'd expect to be bottom half. Hopefully we will put in much improved performances in those two and everyone will calm down a bit.

Losses in the Conference had meltdowns that were off the Richter scale compared to today’s viewing.

Usual over the top nonsense from the usual flouncers. Ignore it.

It's supporters with genuine concerns that are pissed off with the club not spending any money improving the squad.

I think most frustrations are because of the predictability of last nights shambles. Young lads with no experience playing against men, instead of bringing people in to try and bounce back.
Why is there a reluctance from the board to spend any money?

Yes. If it's 0-0 at half time it's usually not much better.
0-0 at half time! A clean sheet even for 45 minutes. That's the stuff of wild dreams you mad man!

I think the problem is that for a few years the managers, board and fans have all been largely “on the same page”, but recently this is less so. Everyone, apart from the manager and the board apparently, knew we needed replacements for Lockyer and Nakamba in January. We definitely needed them in the summer. Everyone knew that chucking in 3 debutants and playing man to man at the back against the best team in the league was suicide, apart from the manager apparently. Saying we played well apart from letting in 4 goals does not go down well.

No sure Pompey will be bottom half, it's a tough place to go, and they had a good result at Leeds. We need an experienced team out on Saturday.

We got hammered 4-1 at home by an, admittedly, good side in a game we didn't really compete in. Losing a game of football is fine but not competing in a game of football is not fine
Of course people are going to have a moan

It's been a bit more than a bit of a moan, although admittedly it's hard to know how many of the dramatic comments such as sack Edwards are from trolls who are just trying to wind people up
The 'sack Edwards' comments are likely to be trolls. I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting that, although they say most managers are about 5 poor results from the sack
As others have said, with the quality of opposition and the defensive players available to us, in isolation last night would have been easy to shake off. But this is all a continuation of the avalanche of goals we conceded from Feb onwards last season adopting the same suicidal tactics

It's ridiculous to say sack Edwards, but questions maybe asked this season, Robs honeymoon period is over, I do hope we have a great season for many reasons , but to get rid of Rob would be awful, the bond he's had with us fans, is like I've never known, a lovely fella and a great man manager, tactically needs to sharpen up though.
It's down to his tactics as I've said , Southgate was the same .

If it was just last night I’d agree with you. Unfortunately the issues have been around since last season. There are problems that need addressing. Last night was yet another example. People can see them but nothing is changing. Just want some evidence that the club are on to it. As I’ve said in recent posts wishful thinking on its own is not the answer.

Let’s be fair, it’s not been a freak result since the start of February. Averaging 3 goals conceded a game. One win in EIGHTEEN!
Yet the tactics and personnel remain the same.

I agree with your sentiment but would ask are these the same Qualified staff that selected last nights team and tactics
The meltdown is largely because I and many others called our shortcomings before the game, that we don't have enough at Centre Back or midfield. Going into this game with 3 teenage debutants and virtually nothing on the bench. We lost 4-1 oddly called that very result before the game. I don't care about people coming back as most of them will probably last a handful of games before they are back in the treatment room again. Look at Burnley's bench, compared to ours minimal subs as there was nothing on there. If we can see it why can't the people running the club. Also suspect we will lose a couple of our better players before the close of the transfer window and won't replace with better. This could be a long season if the wallet isn't prised open soon.

I agree with you, it did seem like what happened last night was inevitable once we saw the team and how we were going to approach the game, but hopefully it's noted as a mistake and rectified.
People last night were suggesting Edwards is more concerned with brand Edwards much like Kompany last season who seemed to only care about his future career and not whether Burnley stayed up. I don't think that's the case because if Edwards fails this season he's hardly going to be offered a premier league job for example. He needs this season to work and I am sure he will change things up if they are not working.
They haven’t been working for the last 18 games, and still he has changed nothing. No tactical nouse is the problem, maybe even out of his depth. Time will tell but just hope we don’t leave it too late. Also what clown decided to give him a four year contract, utterly ridiculous.
