    GS prog notes

“ Most importantly, if there’s one thing 32 transfer windows have taught me it’s to sell is to improve – we have little or no doubt that we’ve secured 10 of the 14 players we wanted, however, with 10 still remaining on our squad list, we will finish the Premier League in mind, after all.”

Does anybody know what this means?!

Ninja posted the same further down.

It doesn't scan great and I'm not sure what he's actually trying to say. Could be waffle to cover for a lack of signings, could be misquoted or typed. Could make sense to some. Who knows

Just read the actual program and the substack below has it wrong.

        What he says is:

'however the primary objective remains to keep our talented and established squad together. If we sell, it's to sell to improve - not because we have to.
It's worth noting of the 14 players we signed last season 10 still remain with us, all of whom were brought to the club with the premier league in mind, let alone the championship'

          Sell to improve?
So we've improved by selling Ross Barkley then?

            Re: GS prog notes

Posted by Doctor Ince on 12/8/2024, 23:35:37, in reply to "Re: GS prog notes"

He's probably going to be the exception in every case tbf.

GS says he wants to keep the squad together and of the 14, 10 are still here. Fine.

But the 4 gone are Barkley, Lokonga, Kabore and Giles.

3 of those were starters. We've also lost Berry and Osho. One of those was a starter and Berry came off the bench fairly regularly.

So we need to replace 4 starters and 1 squad player (accepting Hashi as the replacement for Giles).

We've signed two. It's all well and good saying we have kept 10, doesn't stop us being short.

Also interesting to see he says we prefer to do business early - quite a few on here have been saying we prefer to do it late

That is a very telling statement.

              FFS

              What has happened to us?

So much defence on here of how well the club is run and then you read that and need to revert to a sub stack to do so.

              Shambles.

He sounds like a shit 2nd hand car dealer, spouting any old nonsense. Gets away with it when things are going our way on the pitch.

No comments on why no money has been spent on the squad. As you say, he tells a different story than his mates and chums.

Not a single comment on the farce that is the club shop.

Bit let's deflect that with a bit of an update on PC that doesn't really mean anything and some waffle about improving the squad. Whilst not doing so.

He's got a lot more right, than he has wrong.

You really believe he doesn't think the squad needs strengthening? And he's just being tight?

The board have always provided cash for players. Usually more than we'd have expected.

I think it’s changed as we’ve gone up the leagues. In leagues 1 and 2 our profile, ambition and wages for the level (plus Jones’ PowerPoint) could attract quality players for those divisions. Now it seems like we’re searching for ‘value’ and quality loans and so leaving things later as we can’t / won’t compete with similar championship clubs on wages or contract lengths. Or pay large loan fees.

                    Yeah, seen.
Trouble is shite like that, even if it's not the club itself just adds to people's frustration.
