Players coming in..
Posted by Chatter on 10/8/2024, 8:53:16
So when we was in Slovenia, Robbie said players were coming in the week after, then at certain viva same thing...
So safe to say, we thought we had deals agreed but the targets went elsewhere..
Looks like we are scrambling around now trying to find the cheap alternative

FFS. Have you got any idea how a transfer window works? Obviously not.

There’s a big difference between ‘scrambling around looking for cheap alternatives’ and refusing to pay prices that have been inflated because teams believe we’re minted. We have always been carefully run, so despite being in the mix for a higher standard of player, we are not going to give in to clubs and player agents who are asking outrageous fees and wages. In the same way, where we have been ‘in for a player’ and were negotiating, other less well run clubs are throwing money in to gazzump us. Those are the clubs who will later cry ‘foul’ when they get charged with FFP breaches.
I don't think we're looking for cheap alternatives necessarily, but it's pretty obvious based off a few comments that some of our first choice targets haven't worked out
It seems apparent that we have missed out on some but who? I admit I've not been following the transfer market for anyone else closely at all but who do you think we've lost out on?
We’ve lost three central midfield players and two or three (depending on Locks) centre backs, so I assume it is in these areas we have been trying to recruit. MH said in his interview we’re looking towards the “long term” so I suspect we’re going to be light in the first few games
What is poor is the length of time this is taking. It was always a very strong possibility in January we was going to be relegated and lokonga and barkley would be going. So why did we not identify option a, b and c and then sign them or if we couldn't get option a move onto b etc.
Look at barkley, villa has this sown up very quickly. Yes we aren't villa but why was we not quicker with bids etc
How do you know that we wasn't? We might have bit for ten players for all you know. There is so much bollocks talked about our transfer policy, at the end of the day our procedures over the last few years have seen us climb to the top. Why not just let those that know what their doing get on with it ,without the constant guessing and bedwetting?
We have a wonderful club with the best pcaretakers possible, just try and enjoy it.
The issue is we are competing with higher championship clubs the first first time . This is new ground , if we want more mercedes type players we gotta pay up , this is were our model is needs adjusting perhaps. We will still look for league 1 /2 gems but we need to compete with certain clubs to attract players now. All players will believe in the plan etc but would they rather me payed 6k or 12k??
