The future

So without sounding like Cuba ….do you think the current board (I guess I mean Gary Sweet) have taken us as far as they can? I know football agents are wankers but talking to my mate tonight he tells me Gary always wants a deal….well guess everyone does but sometimes you have to pay a bit more. We have all worked with that person who has been promoted beyond their ability. Amazing achievement but like all the best CEO’s understand when you are done - and I don’t know he is btw.

It's quite simple. It's OUR football club, 2020 have said time and time again they see themselves as custodians. It really doesn't matter what division we're in, what matters is that it's our football club, in the middle of our community, and it will still be here for your kids and grandkids. It's about meeting up with your friends, same time (ha!), same place every other Saturday.

There's an existential problem with football in this country.
I'm more than happy with where we are.

I agree with you. I really enjoyed last season but realistically can we ever compete at that level without a sugar person. It’s just where do we go ….Championship top half , play offs , going up every now and then … Actually we are fucking lucky and have lots of similar sized clubs way below us in the pyramid.Yep let’s enjoy the ride….

There's much more to what's going on with 2020 than the football team side....what they're doing is creating a sustainable model for the football club (and football), building a ground to enable that and engaging with community to fill it and elevate the town.
Doubt you would find a new set of owners/CEO either wanting to or capable of delivering at.
We have a lot to be proud of on and off the pitch, when Power Court is up and running let's see what the future holds.
On the side you know a bit about (ie agents), who knows maybe approaches may have to be tweaked but the principles of sustainability and fiscal responsibility will not be compromised under our current custodians.
We could well (hopefully not) rise up by standing stsolid while the pyramid collapses around us - I'll admit to having a bleak view of the future of football and thus stand full square behind everything 2020 stand for.

Beautifully written and in agreement with everything you have written…..just want more I guess. I also believe the majority of us don’t know when we cant take anything further.I know I am guilty of that… We won’t change approach has worked brilliantly but things change ..let’s not get left behind.

I honestly believe there's no chance of us being left behind.
We're in a far better place than any other club I kmow of - and I genuinely do fear for the future of football, even with the IFR on the way. Too much power in the hands of too few - and those few are all about money at all costs.

I am sure you are right. I totally agree we are in a fantastic position and would hate to see us lose that advantage but as you say they have got us this far so no reason they won’t complete. I wish the ground was moving quicker but know that’s not for the want of trying …

The Bear club won't get injured, it won't decrease in value. It's an asset that will grow.

The Bear Club is a (canny) investment by 2020 Developments, not the football club - as has beem n explained ad nauseum. So your valiant attempt at humour falls completely flat, sorry.

Reading my post back I can see it looks negative..I don’t mean it to be. With every moving forward business in life you need to be evolving..are we ? Maybe we have done it to quickly but so have Amazon… I have nothing but admiration for GS ..literally would name a stand after him but imo we have so much opportunity now to kick on.
