So only I have questions?
What is the point of a Q&A session if it is just me?
I suspect there will be many questions along similar lines, but will they be asked?
My questions are:
1. Do you regret not adding to the squad in January when a) you had the draw of the Premier League and b) it would have meant ending the season with a more balanced squad and taking the pressure off the summer transfer window? Plus the fact that it might have kept us up with so many further injuries from February onwards.
2. You put a lot of pressure on some key players like Alfie Doughty. Is that reasonable and justified in a 46-game league season? He is fundamental to the way we play and aren't you risking injury and fatigue without equal cover?
3. Why has Allan Campbell been excluded from pre-season friendlies when we have a Marv-shaped hole in midfield? Playing Allan would cover that in the short term and also put him in the shop window if his future lies elsewhere.
4. Will you be registering yourself as a player to cover for injuries in the centre of defence?

5. Why don't you start using just for men, as your lovely hair is turning grey, don't you care how you look?
6. Would you rather get a paper cut every time you turn a page or bite your tongue every time you eat?
7. Do you think music is a universal language?
8. When will I see my cock again?
9. Do you have a signed Harry Isted poster I can have?
10. Are Ross Barkley's teeth real?

It wasn’t meant as a personal attack, rather an observation that he was coming across as hypocritical. I’ve noticed you’ve not been on here much lately, so you probably missed the post/s I was referring to.
On Saturday, there was a thread about injuries and subsequent signings we should target. Herve chimed in that everyone should ‘chill the fuck out’ and stop questioning the club. He seemed to take a discussion about football, on a football messageboard rather defensively, because it differed from his opinion.
Not the first time I’ve noticed it either, so thought I’d pull him up on it.

Come on. The stuff on here after Saturday was incredibly OTT.
If someone is talking reasonably about their opinion, which is different to mine, I'm pretty sure you'll find I'll chat to them in a similarly reasonable way.
But when people are getting hysterical because we lost a pre season friendly and haven't signed the 3 centre backs they want, I don't think it's completely mental to say that someone needs to chill the fuck out.
Come talk to me in the Brickies and you'll see I'm quite a friendly and reasonable bloke.

2. I haven't seen any rational explanation of this point, moreover why was Giles loaned out and then sold and still no like for like cover for Alfie signed?

1) He literally said, and I quote, " "They've got to be the right person, fit into what we do and make us better, and that's difficult in January. What do you expect him to say to you that's different?
2) You asked a rhetorical question. If you'd said "We're a bit light in the full back areas, is that somewhere we're looking for more depth?" that's a question I's like to hear an answer to. But you're basically saying "You hung Doughty out to dry by not signing cover. Do you agree?"
3) What do you want him to say? Campbell isn't good enough for my team? Every single manager has players who don't fit into his team. Why can't you accept RE doesn't think he's good enough for us?

The fact that we couldn't get the players we wanted for the amount we were prepared to spend.
Last season was 38 games, not 46, I thought you were doing this. We'd spent a lot of money on him and for whatever reason it didn't work out and loaning him out was our best chance of recouping as much of that money as possible. See the first point about cover.
He isn't in our plans. He's going. I'm sure we're trying to sign cover for Marv.

In January we were probably trying to sign cover but for whatever reason it didn't happen.
So what happens over the next three weeks if we still can't find someone?
Campbell would have been better than nothing, and that is grossly unfair on a player we all liked and has a good track record for us in the Championship.
You sound confident that we will make signings, but with respect many have been saying that for over six weeks, but unless we are willing to break our cost model getting in replacements seems to be getting harder.

Our difficulties aren't exactly in isolation, are they? Loads of clubs haven't really signed anyone. I don't think the club should start paying over the odds to secure players just for the sake of signing someone.

He's not asking questions that he wants genuine answers for. He's having a pop.
"You put a lot of pressure on some key players...Is that reasonable and justified"
FFS. What does he expect him to say?
He's essentially telling RE that he fucked up by not signing anyone in January and that Allan Campbell is the answer to our midfield.
RE said a hundred times that we had targets in January but it's tricky doing business, and that AC, although he's a great pro, isn't right for the way we play.
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by jimmyp on 8/8/2024, 11:27:45, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
January transfer window is almost universally accepted to be inherently tricky to do the right business.
The greatest successes tend to be players who unexpectedly become available in January and use the rest of the season to acclimatise to a new country and league such that they're completely settled by the beginning of the next.
At the risk of explaining something that doesn't actually need explaining.

Maybe.
But a lot of people have said time and time again they agree with some of his of his views.
I'm disappointed with the transfer window so far and in January. Doesn't mean we didn't try in January, nor that we haven't we tried this window. I think there will be a lot of activity from the top PL clubs as the window draws to a close which will unclog the market further down the chain and will see us make signings.
Problem is Cuba just just keeps banging his drum relentlessly, irrespective of what others say back.
And he always has a pin up boy. It used to be Dion, now it's Joe Taylor.

1) i am sure Rob would have loved to have added to the squad in January, but ultimately the board took the decision not to invest.
2) Fair point. Perhaps a follow up question should be, are we looking to address this?
3) Campbell is a box to box played, as opposed to a more traditional DM like Nakamba.
4) Sounds like you’re being petty.
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by The Outsider on 8/8/2024, 10:35:10, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
1 Did they? That isn't what was reported at the time.
The problem is that people keep saying that we should have brought in cover for Nakamba and Adebayo plus a couple of centre halves. With only one squad place available, that wouldn't have been easy even if we could find the right players for those positions.
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by Notorious D on 8/8/2024, 11:16:19, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
It was publicly acknowledged by GS, that we had made numerous ‘ambitious enquiries’ for our targets, but that the figures being quoted were not in line with what we were prepared to spend (I’m paraphrasing); which translates to the board deciding to not to invest. Thats pretty unequivocal.
I’ve discussed this with you previously; we knew that Lockyer wouldn’t be playing for the remainder of the season, so he should have been left out of the 25. RE made comments in the media early on, that Nakamba was unlikely to play for the remainder of the season as he had a serious injury. Dan Potts falls into a similar category. That’s four places available in total right there.
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by The Outsider on 8/8/2024, 11:31:03, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
As I posted previously, Potts was on the bench on 30 January (and also in February).
Lockyer was left out of the 25.
My understanding of the Nakamba situation is different to yours.
Not sure how you get to four places available?
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by Notorious D on 8/8/2024, 17:14:05, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
One Space was available; add Lockyer, Potts and Nakamba or Shea. That makes it 4.
Potts was nowhere near fit for pretty much the entirety of the season, and had barely kicked a ball in anger in the last 18 months. With respect to him, he was also nowhere near prem standard, so perhaps some ruthlessness from us could have omitted him, if it allowed for a stronger replacement.
With regards to your ‘recollection’ on Nakamba, you must have missed RE saying pretty early doors that it was a serious one?!
Anyway I’m arguing the point for other posters that advocated for multiple transfers, whereas I thought it was pivotal to recruit a Lockyer replacement and a Nakamba one, to solidify the spine that had been significantly weakened by the absence of the aforementioned.
We could have omitted just Lockyer from the squad to ensure the above was carried out.
Re: 6pm tonight
Posted by The Outsider on 8/8/2024, 20:09:31, in reply to "Re: 6pm tonight "
As I said, Lockyer was omitted from the squad so you can't create an additional space by leaving him out of a squad that he wasn't in.
I have never disagreed that another centre half coming in would have helped things but it seems that we tried to get one in but couldn't do so.
My argument is that we couldn't bring in the four players that some say we should have.
I certainly don't agree with leaving Shea out - if we had done that and Kaminski or Krul had got injured or suspended, people would have criticised us for going into the second half of the season with no cover.

Lockyer wasn't in the 25 from January.
Nakamba was described as potentially available for the final few games.
Potts, as described, was available when any such decisions would have been made.
All of which has already been qualified.
I think the problem really is that, given that we have to take a punt on players with an injury history and/or higher likelihood of sustaining injury throughout the season, we could really do with being able to name a squad of 30. Or accept that we're going to play the kids a fair bit.
Cheers, Jim

Have you sent those?
I expect that instead of doing that you’ll spend the hour between 6-7pm on here forensically analysing every single syllable of the interview, but DEFINITELY not to find fault, and bemoaning the questions asked whilst not having taken the opportunity to send any in yourself.

To be honest they're fair and reasonable questions. I would also ask that, given our current injury situation, was it wise allowing Berry to leave?

Would it have been wise to force a loyal servant, getting towards the end of his career, to stay and be on the bench for most games when he has expressed a wish to move to get regular football?

That would have been a satisfactory answer to the question of Berry which I'm assuming was the case given that you've said it. I can't recall but trust your memory and judgement.

The club had a one year option which they could have taken but Berry indicated that he would like to move to get regular starts. We could have insisted on invoking the option but didn't.

I agree. That's why I asked has he submitted them. He's put so much time and effort in to repeatedly asking the questions on here, he'll look a bit silly if he hasn't.
