We probably fielded the U21s or something.

And anyway it’s healthy to get beaten sometimes. The coaches can learn a lot from these things.

It was the U21s - it was always advertised as that.

What has happened to Taylan Harris? Haven't seen his name in a teamsheet for ages. Don't think he's played at all this pre-season. Injured?

            Bateson went off injured. Hamstring?

Francis-Clarke went off at half time. Didn't see any indication of an injury.

              Maybe Edwards can register himself?

Very noticeable are the poor results of the Development XI in pre-season.

Getting well beaten by Step 2 and Step 4 clubs, also losing at St Albans to nil and drawing at Hitchin.

I think these results underline the overall weakness in the wider group too.

There is a huge gap between the team tonight and the best 8 or 9 players in the first team.

The results haven't been good but the teams that played in the two games that you mentioned were both without any of the youngsters who went to Slovenia.

Agreed for three of them, but last night we saw a more experienced team well beaten, despite Slough making many changes themselves throughout the game.

Also, while Berko are one of the stronger local Step 4 clubs, don't you think our young professionals should be able to compete better at this level, even at 17 and 18?

And if they can't perhaps loan more of them out to Step 4 clubs earlier as part of their development, rather than playing pointless development games that have only produced JJ and Nelson as potential senior squad members in the last five years.

Pretty sure AFC Dunstable and Barton Rovers would take a couple each!

It has always seemed the case that our development teams struggle against the physical strength of adult teams. This has been noticeable in Beds Senior Cup games over the years.

Last night's team wasn't too different to that in recent games once you take out the two centre halves.

Grimsby are interested in Luker although they say that he is good enough to play at a higher level than that.

I would expect several of them to go out on loan once the season starts.

Back in the 'good old days', I know you will recall the production line of players who could step up and be ready much earlier.

Harvey, Nogan, Hughes, Pembridge, Black, North M, North S, Daniel, Allpress, in fact most of our XI at Villa in 1990 I think?

All of the above in the top flight.

Given how good these academies are supposed to be, it seems odd that they don't produce better and physically stronger players even at 18.

Have you been to any of the under 21 PSFs this year?

                          Not this season.

Did more in 22/23 when Casey was around and as an older player I think he captained the team well, possibly the leadership and experience the current group are missing?

Why would you even suggest such a thing when you've not seen a single minute of the games?
