    The Championship Summer Window

Posted by Music Critic on 6/8/2024, 10:39:54

I would like to see a centre half (maybe 2 considering injuries), a central midfielder and a wing/full back come in but can't relate to the constant, daily whining by some on the subject of transfers

I've found a link listing every C'ship club's activity this summer, so far

Just seems to feature a load of footballers I've never heard of with a smattering of some vaguely familiar names, many of which are pretty underwhelming

Anyway, enjoy if it's your thing:

I had a look at the Transfermarket site for Championship transfers. They have more prices attached but obviously guesswork.

What struck me was the amount of players signed for around £1/2 mill from European clubs. And no, never heard of any of them!

Yes, much better value to be had outside the UK but the activity of other clubs doesn't exactly look worrying

Could be a few unknown gems in that, of course

I mean you’re right, aren’t you? It’s a list of people that none of us have heard of and a smattering of decent quality champ names like Callum o’hare, Boyle and Kieffer Moore. And that’s about it .

        Yes

And, yet, people drone on all day, every day on here about how weak* we're looking and how shit our window has been

Doesn't seem to be that much frightening business being done by the other 23 clubs (acknowledging there have been a very small number of good signings).

            100%

People blather on about how we're not progressing the squad. But that's absolute bs.

We were relegated and lost Ross Barkley and Lokonga. It's impossible to improve on those players when we're in the second tier.

But have the squad progressed since we won promotion. Absolutely, it has. Plus the players who were already proven success' in the Championship now have a season of PL experience to draw upon, and the confidence they'll have gained from competing and having proved themselves in the PL.

In an ideal world we'd sign a CB and a CM. And I think we will.

In addition I really think we need another LWB.

I know Bell and Johnson can play there but imo we need a quality back up otherwise we're flogging Alfie again.

I'd agree. That's the one position it feels a little odd that we've not heard any rumours about, considering our record signing was a LWB who we sold.

Posted by Doctor Ince on 6/8/2024, 13:57:30, in reply to "Re: The Championship Summer Window"

To be honest I think a lot of negativity has been because we have obvious weak spots in the squad and there's been few rumours and even less communication or updates either from the club or from the press.

We've just been relegated and there's been no real effort to get everyone pumped for this season.

It's not just on here, even the 'normal' fans I know who don't really do online stuff are feeling it.

Like you, I'm sure we'll get players in, but it's pretty clear now it's not going to be our first choice in any position

Why is it clear that we won’t be getting our first choices? Maybe we’re negotiating hard for our first choices. Maybe they will be premier league loans that tend to get done later in the window

                      Re: The Championship Summer Window

Posted by Doctor Ince on 6/8/2024, 15:40:33, in reply to "Re: The Championship Summer Window"

We had agreed deals for Baptiste and Walters before the end of the season. We'd ideally have wanted players to go to the training camp.

We've obviously been talking to players, hence REs comments that players have to want to play for us. It makes sense then that if we're not signing those players, we are going after targets who we wouldn't have gone for if the original targets did want to play for us.

Maybe we are after first choices that haven't been available until now, but it seems pretty late in the day

"because of the players we brought in last summer"

                  Paraphrasing RE in that interview.

I think that argument is dubious when you consider that we have lost a number of those Summer 23 signing players and three of the Summer 23 signings are long-term injuries.

I think its just Ted, Chong and Chio who would really qualify as first team regular additions we retain and are available on Monday, hopefully.

Opposed to loss of Ross, Albert, Issa and Giles.

With Mads, Marv and Brown injured.

Notwithstanding the loss of Bez, Potts, Osho and Locks from the 25.

That's quite a turnover so surely he is after more than one.

I'm beginning to think there is something in your 'suspicions'.

Cuba claims to be a 'diehard' fan but consistently posts anything he can think of to cast a negative slant on the club.

I like a whinge now and again but this is at a different level. It really does seem that he has an agenda.

He has, and refuses it seems to have, zero engagement with the club, LTST (claims lapsed membership) or LLSC.

All he does is undermine on here.

There are echoes from the past that I am fully aware of

I struggle to comprehend how anyone can be so negative during such a positive period for the club (arguably the best).

We all know what a Cuba post is going to be about - what's that old adage? Don't like it, don't read it

Don't try to tell me what to do. Seriously, don't. First post since pre Dundee actually, and I've hardly looked at the board either, for reasons I'm not going into.

But I have my suspicions about 'Cuba' based on observation, some information and a depth of knowledge of the past of the struggles of the club, this board and various people who have attempted to undermine the club that qualifies me to have such suspicions. Nothing he has ever posted, so called 'how would I know this, eh?, 'evidence' has ever changed those suspicions.

There are those who seek to undermine the club they claim to love, or at least 2020. Whether you believe that or not is entirely up to you - but in the words of Desperate Dan (I think, originally) there are those of us, thankfully, who continue to 'keep em peeled'. We need to. And yes that includes asking questions of 2020 too, which, as I've repeatedly said, I am absolutely sure I do more of than any of the moaners on this board.

Anyhow, enough. Take your own advice, if you don't like my posts don't read them.
