Allan Campbell
Posted by Beech Path on 6/8/2024, 6:15:31
I appreciate Campbell did not do that well at Millwall but his aggression and closing down are surely worthwhile attributes missing from our current squad where midfield is left wide open as we have seen in the PDF games. The highly competitive/combative Championship midfield area is a tough place and Campbell proved his worth in that area in the Championship for Luton winning some praise and MOM awards. Maybe circumstances have changed, but with our current weakness in defensive midfield maybe Rob Edwards could be tempted to have Campbell available for a while especially when it seems likely that a) Nakamba won’t be available for possibly months and b) the difficulties we are experiencing in recruiting at the right price.

If our next signing was a player who’d struggled to hold down a place on the bench at a struggling Div 2 team for most of last season, people would be losing their shit on an industrial scale

I hope Allan proves Edwards wrong by his treatment to a player who never let us down . Edwards 1 win in last 16 has a lot to prove.

No. He doesn't have a thing to prove. Campbell doesn't have the technical assets that RE wants from his team. He's never strung AC along, and has always been clear with him. So perhaps make up some other nonsense rather than 'he treated him badly' for your next fishing trip.

Time will tell, extended contract big mistake.

Contract clause upon promotion, feck all that can be done about it. Probably in every players contract.
Not a mistake.

He's talking about RE's contract

Ah yes, I see that now.
Time will indeed tell, much like everything!

Campbell at the same level as Pelly. Must be something personal with Edwards! We don't have cover in midfield Campbell under contract and being payed whats the point in him not being involved ? players like Fred and Berry let go as Edwards thinks he can improve squad problem is inflated prices now we have the money and why can't we get them fit!

I agree but most don’t so probably not wasting our breath on this one!
Personally I think through August, when we don’t need to name a squad, Campbell should be at least considered in the role he performed so well in.
He'll be about 6 games away from match fitness. So why would you involve him?

Albeit true this highlights the ridiculous decision not to involve him in pre-season at to least allow for this scenario and also put him in the shop window.
I just can’t make this one out.

I actually agree with you on this. Not really sure what Campbell has done wrong.
Had two very seasons for us in the Championship.

I would say the same about Berry. Given our lack of midfield cover and injuries it seems madness letting him go. Granted that he's more attack minded so has competition with the likes of Clarke and Chong, but he's always tenacious in the tackle and often pops up with important goals - see the stats on posts last night.
Edwards is problem did great with play off players lost us points last year with tactics think of games like Sheffield United home and Bournemouth away should have had more points can see big problems coming
Ever heard of punctutation?

It might make your insane ramblings seem slightly less insane. But probably wouldn't make any difference, thinking about it.
A fair amount of goals we conceded last season were from Clark being caught in possession. Campbell for me is great at pressing the opposition and we might have been able to win more games if we had the option to bring him on.
Maybe true for Prem but did it a championship level tell you it's Edwards not changing tactics whants to play his way not how we had success at Wembley!

He was getting caught a lot in the championship I like Campbell he is aggressive and tenacious. But is not a good reader of the situation holds the ball when he should pass so gets caught. But why has he not gone already?
Re: Allan Campbell
Posted by hatters1988 on 6/8/2024, 9:36:14, in reply to "Re: Allan Campbell"
Probably because he doesn't fit into many teams style of play anymore, as good a job as he done when in the team, Edwards wants the team to develop in a new direction and Campbell doesn't suit that narrative its nothing more than that.
I was gutted when he went on loan last season as I thought he was brilliant for us, but I'm not the manager.
He will likely end up back north of the border never to be heard of again.

I don’t either understand the logic in letting Allan and Fred go when we’re short on players. No one works harder than Allan and Fred is a good versatile player who played well for us in the PL.
