    Joe Taylor

Why do all the 'experts' on here think Taylor is the saviour and answer. He is a reasonable striker with a bit of pace but still has a lot to learn. Not really impressed in the friendlies or fitted into how we play. Not sure balls over the top will work particularly well in the Championship.

You must be new here 😂

Anyone not playing is the saviour and any youth player who is in the squad should be starting. Until they do. And then they’re too inexperienced and we should be signing someone no one has actually seen play for x million.

He was purchased as a development player, proved at Wembley that he had nerve and could finish.

He had two excellent loans last season.

Nobody is saying he is the next Malcolm MacDonald (yet) but as he is our player and is a proven goalscorer AND Jacob Brown is injured and not yet match fit it would be pretty mad to allow him to go when its likely McAtee will go this week too.

If Woodrow becomes the third striker, well......

Correct, he's not the next Malcolm McDonald, but he is the next Paul Walsh.

Playing off the shoulder of a big striker, Adebayo or Morris, he'd create havoc to the opposition.

Woodrow IS the third striker. He scored double figures in the championship in consecutive seasons. Apart from games with Fulham and ourselves (And given his role with us mainly been late sub) he has a 1 in 3 scoring ratio.

Realistically Taylor is currently behind Adebayo, Morris, Woodrow, Brown, Chong, Cheo, Townsend and Ogbene for 3 attacking berths. I`d personally keep him for what its worth (which is very little admittedly) but if he was loaned out for 6 months to continue developing then it benefits both the player and the club if his gametime is going to be limited . The disclaimer to that is of course if we have a nearly full squad

He has scored six goals for us in 1789 minutes playing time (I have treated games as 90 minutes for simplicity) so not far short of a goal every three games which, allowing for the fact that he often didn't have time to "get into the game", isn't a bad return.

                    Woodrow did that when???

If you are going back that far ago the argument doesn't really work Nick!

He has also had his own injuries, in both seasons with us.

53 goals in 155 appearances between 2013/14 season and 21/22 season. So just before he signed for us. Most of his appearances for us have been off the bench

I was never going to have stats as detailed as that! Actually a lot better than i woudl have expected (which seems odd as i`m not the one with a vendetta against him!). Do you know how that compares in terms of goals per minutes with our other strikers (and even former ones such as collo at championship level?)

Posted by The Outsider on 5/8/2024, 23:30:34, in reply to "Re: Joe Taylor"

No, it's just that I did some calculations the other week when I realised that he had never played a full 90 minutes for us in 51 league appearances. He played 1150 minutes in those 51 appearances - almost exactly an average of a quarter of a game per appearance. By contrast, he has made 10 cup appearances and played the whole game in 5 of them.

Goals per 90 mins in the 2022-23 championship season

                              Morris - 0.53
                              Berry - 0.40
                              Jerome - 0.26
                              Woodrow - 0.24
                              Adebayo - 0.20

Collins was 0.34 and 0.32 goals per 90 in his 2 championship seasons with us.

In 2021-22 our top 5 were:

                                Berry - 0.76
                                Hylton - 0.61
                                Cornick - 0.46
                                Adebayo - 0.43
                                Jerome - 0.20

                                In Woodrow’s 3 championship seasons with Barnsley he scored 0.38 goals per 90 in 19-20, 0.33 in 20-21 and 0.16 in 21-22.

Morris and Collins should have better rates being penalty takers. I know that a goal is a goal etc....

I think Morris only became our penalty taker in the latter half of the championship promotion season after Elijah missed ..well more than he should.

Berrys stats are particularly impressive give he wasnt on freekicks or pens

Berry scored 26 goals for us - his 26th was the only one that he scored for us in a game that we lost.

And finally our Premier League top 5

                                          Adebayo - 0.63
                                          Berry (!) - 0.56
                                          Morris - 0.35
                                          Andersen - 0.23
                                          Woodrow - 0.21

Interestingly Brown, Chong, Ogbene (0.18) and Barkley (0.17) all had almost exactly the same goals per 90.
