    Safe standing (more?)

    Posted by Nn4 hatter on 23/6/2024, 7:09:13

Has it been confirmed that more safe standing is going in?

The enclosure, the oak side of the tunnel was bandied about ?

Think I remember that the club were looking into the possibility of putting in more safe standing, especially as the costs could be recovered. Not sure however what the limits are in terms of what percentage of the stadium that can be converted. The demand is certainly there.

When you say the costs can be recovered, how so?
As for the demand, after seeing how ridiculously squashed it is in the Oak Road, why anyone in J Block would want it is beyond me.

Based on a direct quote from GS.

Mr Sweet said: "Because of the increase in capacity, pay-back would be well under two seasons with the additional benefit of allowing more supporters into the stadium.

The demand I refer to is the extra demands for tickets.

It's not as squashed as is used to be.

I know about 20 people that go in the OR. Everyone of them has said its squashed and a bit shit.
It certainly looks squashed from up in G Block.
Extra rows and handrails, of course its more squashed.

Well it’s not my experience. Perhaps the people you know are extra large

It is a bit squashed - I actually quite like it but I think it’s absolutely at the limit in terms of getting people in and out safely.

I also think the same for the area at the top of kenilworth road and into the main stand especially. But that will be helped without the absurd amount of trucks and whatnot that blocked the way last season.

It would also help if people went to their actual spots. I realise that this makes me a killjoy, but at the Everton game there were two people who “just wanted to stand with their mates” but there just wasn’t room for them.

GS mentioned increased revenue, plus recycling seats/stands to power court!

Yes but there's still the costs of labour and materials. Then the labour to take some discoloured seats apart and move them to PC.
Unless GS knows something we don't and we're planning on staying at KR alot longer than has been said, what's the point?

From the Gary Sweet interview in the last home programme (the whole text is available on the club website)

“When will the building work start – and what has held it up?”

Gary Sweet: “Firstly may I just say that we completely understand certain frustrations and we are as anxious as anyone to get it done and it’s not an easy question to answer. There are so many complexities with a project like this, in a location like this, and at a time like this including some outside of our control.

“But if we’re looking at concrete facts – no pun intended – groundworks have already started and, in-sync with UKPN’s targeted schedule on the sub-station, piling is currently scheduled to start in the first half of 2025. That’s the foundations being laid. After that you’re looking at approximately a two-year build time. Construction of the stadium can begin before the sub-station move is finished and we won’t need to wait for the residential development to start either. So that gives you some idea – targeting an opening for the 2027/28 season but must allow for test events and training and as it would be a nightmare to move mid-season we may be pushed to 2028/29.

....It is happening, it always was. Be 100% sure of that.”

Nor saying it won't happen but not confident it will happen in the time frame GS said

Well, if you're not going to trust the words of the person who knows exactly what's happening, there's not much more to say.

We're all anxious about it to varying levels I guess, but 2020 have delivered on their promises haven't they - I've been a vocal critic of their communications re this (to GS direct and through the Trust and various action groups) but given that nothing he says/writes seems to satisfy some people, I don't really blame him/them for just getting on with it.

Some people (not meaning you) seem to want it all to fail so they can say 'told you so'. It won't. That couldn't be clearer.

Some people are just so negative about anything LTFC...I don't understand why they stick around!

Although it's a busy area, as some people come down and stand there anyway ?
