    My take on the election

Posted by Man in the street on 19/6/2024, 11:08:00

People think Starmer is less bad that Sunak.

Politicians are unloved, mainly because they can't give everyone what they want.

Starmer is likely a bit better than Sunak at delivering stuff.

Farage is popular with some but huge numbers won't risk it, at this least this time.

    Fair?

Sunak hasn't been asked any direct question on how his spending commitments are being funded

His manifesto is a pack of lies but he hasn't been called to account to explain how its being funded

Tories. Pathetic crooks who offer nowt but corruption and lies.

Labour. Trying to be the old cons before they went mental.

Reform/Brexit mob. Fag packet bullshit and lies run by an excited frog eyed loon.

Libs. Say anything just to be heard.

        We are screwed.

Starmer may or not be better at delivering stuff , however I fail to see how you make this assertion given his party has been in opposition for 14 years.

The view is based on his track record in previous jobs and turning round the Labour party since 2019.

There's not a huge amount between the 2 main parties other than Labour probably won't trouser as much money as the Tories.

He has turned them round. It's just people have realised what cunts Conservative are and Labour are the next party on the list to vote for.

Tories seem to be focusing entirely on scaremongering about Labour's tax plans.

They're basically saying if you vote us in again you can keep more of your money, but the only way they could even attempt this is by cutting public services even further, and also benefits to the sick and disabled once more.

Went to a hustings last night and to be fair Andrew Selous didn't mention Labour's tax plans once (that I can remember anyway).

He is running on his local record
As far as I can see he avoids mentioning the Conservative Party at all costs

Also he is worried as he was canvassing personally yesterday and he has never been round this part of Dunstable in years.
So he is worried about his safe seat

Iíve seen on the getvoting website that Labour are 10% ahead in polls for Central Beds.

Interestingly enough he seems like one of those fairly decent local MPs who try to do stuff for their constituents but I notice on some of the campaign boards he uses they don't mention the word "Conservative" on them - just his own name! So yes, going on his own record. A question came up about Brexit and he was very quick to declare that he voted "remain" even though this area voted heavily in favour of "leave".

Saw one MP had designed his leaflets in Red, probably to try and fool people into thinking he was the Labour candidate.

The other possible option is to get rid of or reduce Inheritance tax.

It's probably the one thing that might save them from a complete hammering.
