His base don't care what he does.

What alarms me most is just how pro Putin and anti NATO Trump is. It concerns me when a lot of the right in this country, the likes of Farage, Mogg, Truss etc want him to be President. Trump's stance on those issues are hugely, hugely concerning.

And they would be foaming at the mouths if Corbyn had supported someone with similar pro Putin, anti NATO remarks.

I think that’s true about his supporters….its very strange imo.
I think his issue with NATO is countries ( who tbf are more in the firing line of say Russia) aren’t paying a fair amount which if you look at the numbers is correct.
Why the US would want a change seems daft to me when the country is doing ok under the democrats…bit like in the UK…😂😂

History suggests that's not his only issue with NATO (see quote in my post below)

The real worry is his apparent admiration of Putin, and what that implies for the future of democracy in the USA should he be elected

Do you think he still has that admiration…surely he wouldn’t support Putin in this current situation. I know he is nuts but ….

Yeah, that's fair historically but a lot of those countries, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania etc all now pay what they're supposed to.

Yet I saw Trump is now demanding 3% - it's like he's a mobster and nothing will be enough to satisfy him. Like a true mobster it's 'pay us what I want or we won't protect you.'

I get they should pay their fair share, but I really don't get Trump's long term aims. Why constantly undermine trust in NATO / US security. Just to feed into his narrative of powerful US isolationism? He must realise the US also benefits from it.

Or is he just scared Russia might release the piss tapes?

If the US reduced financial help I think NATO would struggle. Tbh I think Trump is nuts so hopefully won’t get back into power.
Different subject but saw an article about Rod Stewart getting booed for displaying support for Ukraine in Germany….jeez don’t they realise Russia is on there doorstep.

For example Trump fully supports NATO but doesn't like the fact that most countries won't pay their share. Understandable as why should the US taxpayer subsidise others, and miraculously after he said his piece several members paid their subs.

I'm not particularly a Trump fan but if the only other option is sleepy Joe.......

                          He doesn't.

'Trump’s NATO-scepticism is well-known. According to John Bolton, Trump’s estranged former National Security Advisor, the president came close to announcing an American withdrawal from the Alliance at the 2018 Brussels summit.'

Well I'll certainly hang on to his every word as he really wasn't upset by it!

Yes, the same John Bolton who in his time would have had a unique insight into Trump's policies and thinking.

But if you want to take the word of a proven liar against his, so be it. A liar who has cosied up to Putin, Kim Jong-un and leaders of the Taliban in fact...

I don't doubt his inside knowledge but I also don't dismiss his grudge.

Bolton was also caught lying, but if you want to take the word of a ....!

You'll excuse my scepticism, but I'm not convinced that's his real issue with NATO.

I think his comments re Ukraine and Putin are concerning.

Biden is too old and mentally frail. But so is Trump. And Trump is also borderline deranged.

No need to apologise HH as I share your scepticism and it's almost novel to have a conversation on here without the normal sh*te!

A big problem nowadays imho is the amount of false information and trolling on social media.

Not much between Biden & Trump as you say, neither make much sense when they talk, although the latter is currently able to walk without falling over. Perhaps that might explain why Davey's election campaign seems to be primarily focused on being photographed getting wet.
