Why aren't the Tories attacking Reform?

Posted by Layman on 14/6/2024, 9:17:45

Tory attacks are all on Labour.

Meanwhile Reform numbers keep growing and actively trolling the Tories by the hour.

As per John Curtice on R4 Today, the squeeze is Tory to Reform.

Labour's lead effectively remains the same and Labour/other left voters are not suddenly going to move to the Tories with under three weeks to go.

So as the Tory vote share is dropping I can't understand why Penny Morduant is attacking Labour so vociferously as the voters she needs are the ones going to Reform.

If reform get 10% they will be lucky.

        Both are finished.

Robert Peston's view on this is that all of the other parties want the Tories out, and Reform are helping that objective, so no need to attack Nigel.

As has been said below, if the Tories attack Reform they are effectively attacking their own voter base.

But by attacking Labour isn't going to move Left leaning voters to the Tories.

So the attack surely has to be on Reform and get back the right leaning voters who are moving to Reform.

Surely the Tories see that squeezing the Reform vote is their only chance to reduce the size of their loss?

Reform only have 2 policies, Brexit and cutting immigration.

The Tories can't really attack them on policy cos they agree with both and no point attacking Farage personally as he is more popular than Sunak with their 2019 voters.

This is where journalists need to ask questions on all the other parts of policy to find out how competent Reform would be if they get a chunk of seats?
Where do they stand on rail reform? Where do they stand on playing fields? etc.

They are trying to say a vote for reform is a vote for Stwrmer but I'd imagine a lot of Reform voters are nor desperate to stop Starmer or they would vote Tory.

Morduant can't do anything apart from scream "Labour will put your taces up."

She's blown her leadership chancea by fronting up this campaign cos her and Sunak will be blamed for the defeat.

Mordaunt won't be leader if she loses her seat.

Pointless talking about the next Tory leader with so many prominent Tories, even those in 'safe' seats, being in danger.

Attacking Reform would be attacking the right wing of their own party which is incidentally where the majority of Tory members and voters are.

Yep, Reform are taking the Tories higher up the froth-o-meter as the election draws nearer.

Yes agreed but that was my point really.

By attacking Labour isn't going to move Left leaning voters to the Tories.

So the attack surely has to be on Reform and get back the right leaning voters who are moving to Reform.

                        No?

Mordaunt did attack Reform a little bit last night.

From Politico: Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt, standing in for Sunak for the “leaders debate,” deployed the standard “vote Reform, get Labour” strategy with a twist — by labeling Farage as a “Labour enabler.” But now the Reform boss has a ready response up his sleeve. “We’re now ahead of you in the national polls,” Farage shot back. “A vote for you is actually now a vote for Labour.”
