Big Weekend legacy + Power Court

I wasn’t able to attend Big Weekend but it seems it was a real success for the town. Proof that there’s an appetite in Luton and the nearby small towns and villages for live music. And also that the great transport links can bring people in from outside.

I wonder if 2020 and the council would consider working together to put on some sort of music event in the future? Obviously at a much smaller scale than Big Weekend, but something that could eventually make use of Power Court and the town’s pubs/small venues?

There are or have been festivals/events like this in Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton etc. I really think Luton could host something like that too.

The Hat Factory, The George, The Castle, The Four Horseshoes, the newly reopened Well, the Gardeners Call, High Town Club, UKCCA, the Bear Club, all put on live music. Would be excellent if the Council, Luton Live(s), VB@H and others worked together to put on a festival over a long weekend. I reckon the will is there, more than at any other time I can remember.

Only issue with using the Stadium when It's built is you've got a very small window to hold it before the pitch has to be redone for the new season

It looked impressive on TV. I couldn't help thinking how many other forgotten towns up and down the country could also benefit from a similarly well run event. Must be dozens of places that aren't considered glamorous enough usually but who need these kind of things to boost the morale and local economies so much more than the normal places that are used.

Radio 1 do that regularly to be fair. They've taken their big weekend to quite a few random places.

Good on them. Be good to see a bit more of it from other promotors, I think it has had a real feel good factor effect for Luton. Other places are equally deserving of something similar.

You can't praise the BBC. People want to defund it for being Hamas supporting lefty woke commies so can't possibly be any good...🤔
