    Transfers

Well barkley is a villa player confirmed maybe Tuesday. Everything is agreed I don't know why they waiting to announce it. Brings me to next point a lot of fans are a bit baffled as to why he is going for pittance and that's obviously because it's a clause in his contract. I find it a win win for us we got a top notch midfielder turning out some impressive performances and tried his hardest to keep us up the rest of the squad weren't up to his level.... maybe a couple were. My question is Would iit be worthwhile pursuing other players in this manner who are free agents and helping them revive their career while we also as a club have a real go at going back up again

I've said previously, Ross is a good player, but he wasn't that great for us. A luxury in a relegation battle, not what we needed....

Take the point on the release clause but we took the risk on giving him a chance last year but it feels wrong that we only get a pittance while Villa end up with a top class midfielder with minimal risk at a knock down price.

Ross must have been the highest paid player at the club, getting his wages off the payroll in the Championship would be a win in itself I would think. If we get a few million on top so much the better, I always assumed he was on a one year contract

Luton will receive every penny we paid to Ross last season.
            Not bad really is it.

            Good points.

Now take that reasoning into your political posts, especially the bits about things that feel wrong, you know, that sense of justice/injustice depending on which side you look at it from. With that in mind how can you possibly cling on to your blind right wing love in With the tories? They are most out of touch with what a sense of what feels wrong actually is.

You say that we are only getting a pittance for him. How much are we getting and what evidence do you have for the figure?

None, but consensus seems to be less than 5 mil maybe as low as 2 mil. You think it might be more?

I have heard various figures including nothing, 2 million, 5 million. Even if it is 2 million, as I have posted below, we probably finished at least one place higher by having him in the team which is worth about another 3 million. I would guess that the fee is more than 2 million and up to 5 million. Somewhere between 5 and 8 million (assuming that we would have finished 19th without him) seems to me to be a reasonable return on the deal. There is also the benefit to other players from the experience of playing alongside him that you can’t put a figure on.

Everyone is moaning about getting a low fee for Barkley when the amount of it is unknown outside the clubs involved, if it happens. Trust the club’s methods. Even if it were as low as people are speculating it would still be good business for a free agent signing when he came in. I have a suspicion it is double what people are moaning about. (But I don’t know, any more than those moaning do).

As I mentioned previously, in addition to whatever fee we are getting, his signing also probably resulted in us finishing at least one place higher in the table than we would have without him which is worth in the region of £3 million.

Not for one second suggesting we should go for him, but if deli Ali has managed to get through his tough times, then he is certainly someone that could revive his career if he was committed enough to drop a division.
Certainly young enough and ,ore than talented enough.

I have thought that as well, but it would be a huge gamble. It could be his making or could finish off any hopes he might have as well as ours. I think he just believed all the hype

If that strategy was generally successful then others would have tried it more often. Barkley was news because it was actually pretty rare for that to happen. I doubt we would be so lucky again. However looking for loans for some better young PL players would be a good idea.

Not necessarily true with loans ie nakamba, without whom we would not in my opinion have got promoted and who then joined and would have continued to make a big impact had he not got injured, of course the list of those who come and then go is longer but it suppose that’s carefully factored in, can’t see us doing a Burnley or forest

I think Dele Ali is well worth a punt. OK, he has had problems but he is a very good footballer.
