Everyone going as if RB was the messiah. No doubting he is a class act, but he ain't the sort of player you need in a relegation battle. He would beat 1or 2 players ( very pretty) but instead of passing to player in space, he would try & beat another, & lose possession, time & time again, he isn't keen on trying to win the ball back once he lost it.. RB was playing for RB & he has got another crack in the prem which is what he wanted. Pretty to watch at at times, but that's it. We move on...

I think the problem was he didn't trust a lot of the team with the ball.

He worked well with Lokonga because Lokonga took some of the pressure off him to do it all. He could give Lokonga the ball and he'd keep it.
Saw the same whenever Townsend played - they would look for each other.

He rarely played it to Fred when they were both on the pitch for example.

Noticed that, also avoided passing to Hashioka and Pelly. I think playing the way we do, you need two all rounders in central midfield, proper “number 8’s” in the new jargon, Palace since their new gaffer came in have shown the way in that regard

In fairness, I can understand why he wouldn't want to give the Japanese Carden the ball.....

Yeah I kind of agree, he was a joy to watch though, mate of mine met him recently said he was an absolute gent. Good luck to him.

Have to agree. Genuinely, good luck to him, but his form fell off a cliff once Lokonga was injured. The best luxury player we’ve ever had.

Luxury player is unfair, without him we don't get near that performance at Newcastle for example.

Have a look at our goal at home to Liverpool, who else in our team would have stood much chance of turning the situation in which he received the ball into an attack like that?

He had the ability to make things happen, even at that top level, that's not luxury, that's excellence.

Yeah, fair enough, “luxury” is too strong: Barkley created goals we otherwise wouldn’t have scored. And there’s possibly an argument that the relatively good form we did have from December-March is because Barkley was at his peak.
But Barkley stopped being anything like as effective as he had been once the rest of the side’s performances also dipped. That’s why I think he’s less essential than Mengi, who imo remained consistent.

That's fair, Mengi was incredible. Yes when he was left one on one with a certain Man City striker he was flattened but I think so would most defenders in the division.

Huge if we can keep hold of him this Summer,

Encouraged to be brave and take players on. Often won the ball back. Goals and assists an excellent player and I too wish him the best of luck. He did us proud and I think any criticism aimed at any of our players is unnecessary.

“Any criticism aimed at any of our players is unnecessary.” Come on. On a Luton forum, I’d rather someone claim Kaminski (who I love) is a weak link than anyone here try to get political.
Barkley was brilliant until March, but he didn’t have nearly as much influence in games afterwards, as (imo) he fairly often gave the ball away cheaply.
A great free signing, was a pleasure to watch, but I don’t think he was so vital to the side that he’ll be as missed as much as Mengi (if he goes.)

Undoubtably an excellent player, his loss of form coincided with Southgate leaving him out.
His career is littered with ups and down in his form, possibly all in his head.
A nice fellow, had a decent chat at the end of season dinner.

Anyway, fuck Barkley, the jug eared bin dipper. You're either Luton or you're nothing.

                        We move on.

Was an opinion. Nothing against him, if we were not bottom 3, he would have been a joy to watch. Other players would have been( have been) slaughtered for losing possession in the areas that RB did.

I'm just glad the club capitalised on having a world class player on the books by having plenty of shirts to sell with his name on the back.....
