    Post match/season thoughts

Posted by Doctor Ince on 20/5/2024, 13:55:34

I thought yesterday perfectly encapsulated the season.
We attacked well, defended abysmally and conceded straight after scoring. A typical Luton premiership performance.

On balance I think I prefer the Championship and the promotion has obviously been good financially so it's been a good season, but the frustration is with a bit more pragmatism and a bit more luck with injuries we stay up. Three or 4 games made the difference.

Good news on the stadium...not sure it needed to wait for a q&a on the final game of the season but it is what it is. Glad that progress has been made and timelines are sorted.

JJ the second looks a good prospect, caught out positionally a few times but always got back and he looks good on the ball.

Gled Shea got on, but disappointed Pelly wasn't allowed to take that late free kick (although we almost scored from it).

We have to improve defensively next season, perhaps Andersen will be the commanding presence needed.

A lot of positives to take from this season, be good to actually win a few next season as well - I know people who have gone a full season without seeing us win

Edwards was hyping up the Barkley song - he'd be superb in the Championship, but will he want Prem football? The drop off in quality between him and whoever we play instead of him is massive.

I also think Osho is in for a bit of a shock if he thinks he's going to get a contract with a Prem club, as I heard someone say yesterday.

If we'd stayed up, things would look promising for next year, unlikely to have a disastrous run of injuries again. How we do next season depends on whether we can keep some of our best players, how much we get for those that leave and the quality of the replacements.

Personally Osho is behind Mengi, Holmes, Anderson, Burke, Bell and even Johnson ( as left-sided).

Definitely need to improve defensively. It might be a level down, but if we are as easy to open up again next season, there are enough good players in the championship to exploit it

Other end of the pitch and behind a pillar for me so I didn't see it clearly.

I saw him lining the shot up, at first I'd assumed it took a deflection

Same people who walked out early last week at West Ham maybe, and had the gall to those who stayed on to applaud RE and the team?

The fact I've spent countless thousands watching the team home and away for decades says alot I think.

                                            That's fine.

But obviously, simple logic says that those that go away, just like you AND support the team after the game are doing that bit more. It's something that the team clearly appreciate.

And it's odd how when I disagree with Dr Ince some random named person chimes in afterwards . . .

I very rarely leave before the end but given i knew I'd be at Fulham and could clap the players after the game then, why stick around in the bowl at west ham?

The objectionable thing you said was that people who did stay behind were "part of the problem".

I'm trying to point out that they weren't.

And we aren't having that kind of debate, I was answering a question, even though the answer is so blindingly obvious I wonder that it was required.

And I am pretty sure from posts on here that you have been to more games than me. Not that it's anything to do with my logic but going to games in our highest ranking season for decades is great, giving support is great, but you and I both know from experience (I believe) that doing it in the leaner years is when it really counts.

Came on as right wing back against Man City in the cup and looked lively. Since then, he's struggled. He's not a central defender but, as we all know, we had precious few bodies left.

I think that he should be allowed him some games in the Championship in his preferred position before pulling the plug. It's a massive jump from the Belgian Pro League to the Premier League.

Also the constant mickey-taking doesn't smack of the high quality support we've given this year?

It's not Mikey taking when it's an honest assessment of his playing abilities. The lad has zero positional sense. It's the same when at wing back or more central. Other players were calling him out yesterday,so maybe you should also ask them to pipe down.

I've seen players with little skill over the past three decades, but at least they knew where they should be standing.
