    Edwards “blaming himself”???

Posted by Hattytown questioner on 12/5/2024, 9:34:18

Not sure it’s really his fault.

I am sure when he said we would end December stronger he believed we would. He will have had assurances.

But reading on here HT can do what he wants, even sell the spine or the team.

Happy clapper fans will even be happy if we keep fringe players.

    Where is the ambition?

To have any chance of a stable season and to push for the playoffs we need to be even better than this season.

Starting with a proper inspirational leader, Bradley, Foster, Locks etc.

Don't you there's perhaps a reason for no one signing any players in January?

Hashioka's signing showed that bedding someone into the division who has no experience of playing PL football isn't as easy as many of the fantasy football managers on here think it is.

Sign a player we don't really want and we still go down and we're lumbered with them for next season.

      But yeah, ambition blah blah

        Exactly.

They bemoan not signing anyone whilst conveniently overlooking the fact the one we did sign was fairly underwhelming and still looks like he's not settled.

Then their argument is we should have spent more money when some top Championship player would cost upwards of £20m. (See Wharton to Palace)

And they would bemoan the lack of ambition if we signed players from League One.

I'm under no doubt the club tried to sign players in January but it didn't happen for a lot of different reasons, but a lack of
ambition etc wasn't one of them.

It just the same poster with his standard Cuban Pissile Crisis.

I don't think the fact that Hashioka is a bit shit is an argument against signing players in Jan.

If he had turned out to be the Japanese Cafu would you be arguing we should've signed more players?

Hashioka looks a poor signing but I'm not sure it's bedding in issues

It's just being offered as an example of why it's so difficult.

The point is that you typically have to spend a lot of money in January for real quality and even then it is harder to bed them in. And of course, they may sign the contract, trip over, and be out for the season.

And then how do we tempt these players? You'll need to give them a Premier League salary / signing on fee knowing that there's a great chance you're going down. So you'd need to have relegation clauses in there or similar in all probability. Not so attractive.

Or, you settle for lower quality which doesn't help a great deal.

Of course, these aren't absolutes but if we were confronted with spend big for quality or go without there is only really one choice for us.

I'm not saying it's a reason not to have signed anyone. More that I don't buy the insinuation everything would have been better if we signed more players as there's no guarantee they would have instantly improved us.

I think we needed more bodies but I also think the club also think we were short and tried to bring in bodies. But I think we're run in a way where the club aren't going to be held to ransom either.

Obviously getting from non league to PL shows a distinct lack of ambition from everyone involved with the club…

The club will carry on next season, as it has over the last 10 years and I have no doubt it will be a success

Agree 100% with your final point, a “Tom Lockyer plus” to lead the defence would be number one on my list, followed by a couple of proper box to box midfielders

Our first team this season is better than the team that finished 3rd and won the play offs. That team won't exist next season as half of them will be gone.

Half of them that weren’t good enough for this league I hope.

Edwards lost his captain and then his “favourite” player at the start of December but blames himself???

He is the Manager. He is the one who gets praise when winning and criticism when losing. Good to see he is accepting responsibility and he will and we will be stronger when we come back
