Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Back to normality next year.
Cheers to all the players and staff some brilliant moments and a team to be proud of.

Up to and including Newcastle away it was really enjoyable. But the last 3 months have been poor, let's be honest. Aside from that winner against B'mouth, it's been a bit depressing from Sheff Utd at home onwards. I feel we've missed a really good chance at staying up.
But it was a promotion that was ahead of schedule and the future looks set. Disappointing but not a calamity.

Missed in what way? Missed in a Cuba ‘should have done loads of things differently’ sort of way. Or missed as in ‘if we hadn’t had a load of injuries’ sort of way. I’m not sure tactics are the main reason. The personal we’ve had available for the last 3 months have ultimately just not quite been good enough

2 teams with points deductions, 2 other really poor sides sort of missed chance
The injuries definitely did for us but we killed ourselves sometimes with some shambolic defending:
Villa at home Man Utd at home Brentford at home Bournemouth away Sheff Utd at home
There was, realistically, 6 or 7 extra points amongst that lot.

Yeah, but that defending was mostly because ultimately the players weren’t quite good enough (partly by design - we deliberately didn’t ‘bet the farm’ on staying up), and also because they were either being flogged cos others were injured or coming back from injury themselves. So is it a missed chance in that context?

I feel it was, yes
Some of the defending in those games was committed by players who had proved they could defend better than that earlier in the season. Let's not forget that for the Sheff Utd home game, we did not have a huge injury issue. It was from the next week onwards (Man Utd) that the injures really bit
We only needed another dozen or so points after we drew at Newcastle in early Feb. It was a bit of a fuck up.
FWIW, although I felt that the tactics were usually right, I felt there were 2 games (well, one-and-a-half) where we did get it wrong - against Sheff U and 2nd half away at Bournemouth. Sheff U we should have brought the chaos we'd brought over the previous 2 months but we were too deliberate, careful and slow for some strange reason
Bournemouth away - well, I don't need to explain that one away and how we should have set up in that 2nd half with the full backs sitting and not going past the halfway line

+1. Agreed. I can't wait to go to Derby away next season and not be surrounded by a load of plastic cunts. Silver linings and whatnot.
