    Lessons Learnt?

Posted by Herts Hatter on 27/4/2024, 9:45:43

Hope to see the outcome of the many lessons we have learnt - in particular the need to give Morris a bit of support - perhaps play Townsend in advanced position? - he had no chance against Brentford and City. I admit to not understanding the one up front thing particular in relation to Morris. Is it historically a successful tactic? Asking as I don't know - just seems 1 against 4 is only going to result in one outcome.... Against Brentford he rarely won the ball but even when he did had no one to pass to or knock it on to. What is the thinking behind it as a tactic except to keep an extra man in midfield?

Only one lesson learned this season. Unless you are prepared to spend every single penny of your forecasted PL revenue including potential parachute payments in the summer before your first season up you can expect to go back down. Forest are a great example of this. They have survived by doing exactly that and a 'little' bit more ! Burnley and Sheff Utd had a better go but still not enough and will finish below us based on our amazing team spirit which has been worth an extra 5 or 6 points. Money has killed the PL and the FFP is aimed at ensuring those that come up don't hang around.

From my limited understanding of tactics I would question why Morris is left up front as a lone striker as an outlet. Either you need him with someone else or you need a pacey player (Ogbene or Onyedinma) to give half a chance.
Morris would be better off helping out in defence with his strength and aerial ability. I like Morris a lot but I think he's had a thankless task for much of this season.

Not sure it matters that much. Scoring isn't really the issue. Its the Sunday league defending that needs sorting.

If we're leaky at the back then it's all the more important that we give ourselves the best chance of scoring

Within reason perhaps. But weve kept two clean sheets all year, one only won game after falling behind, and probably won no games conceding more than two goals, which we have sadly done all to frequently this season.

I agree, i thought we would have a problem scoring this season, but a team cannot concede the number of goals we have this year and not find themselves where they are now

But don't we leave ourselves more exposed at the back by having one less body in midfield?

We scored in 19 consecutive league matches. How many did we win?
