    "Disaster" moaning

Posted by Nick NBH on 21/4/2024, 10:51:43

Seemed to be some completely over the top reactions on social media.

Yes it was a game we wanted to win (ok thats all, but one we felt we could) and yes it was an utterly shit performance, but I`ve seen some suggesting if we do go down we will take a log time to recover as we will lose players.

We lose players all the time. But we have a lot of "replacements" already in the building (Taylor, possibly Mcattee, Holmes)

Add to that that we would be an attractive proposition for players - we`ve turned players from walsall, stoke reserves, rotherham, barnsley etc into premier league players.

Start of the season, the main thing was get the money to buid power court. And dont discrace ourselves. mission accomplished.

If we do lose players, we will get decent fees (very decent fees in fact) for most (Osho aside). This then gives us, if we need a transfer budget for replacements.

Look at it this way - if we go down we will go down in better shape than when we came up. Not many clubs can say that. Especially ones that gamble he parachute money to try and get back up, and change managers every 3 months to try and make it happen..

Was that supposed to a post to annoy me? A post to show that you know where i live which i make no secret of? Its a bit weird either way. Not out of keeping with someone who clearly needs a hard drive check though

It's safe to say he knows more than a multi-name troll who is not a Luton fan.

You might have inadvertently indulged in some disaster moaning yourself there.

The three players you name as being great additions to the squad are all currently playing ( or injured) in League One.

If our big hopes are league one players then we aren't really in a great place when we go down.

I'm also not sure about attracting players over the top half championship clubs. Unless we have a change of heart we aren't going to be going big on fees or salaries. Or spending any we make on transfers. If so why didn't we do it this season?

I'd still put us around the middle ground, rather than bottom three as previous in Championship, but a number of clubs will be more attractive than us.

Five clubs spent more than us in the Championship then we have in the Premier. Coventry, who we beat to get there, have spent nearly 40 million. You can add Burnley in as spenders next season too.

And that's before we lose anyone.

            Middle ground sounds about right.

Quite a step up from being right near the bottom like we were before we got promotion. This club is on the right trajectory, we're doing things the right way.

I don't think anyone can deny that and it amazes me that some people don't seem to be able to grasp that and get behind it.

Those league 1 players as you refer to them aren’t failed championship players though, they are players on the way up.

And no, we won’t be the highest payers in the championship but that hasn’t done us too badly so far. Burnley have already spent £100M at least of their Premier League windfall.

I’d expect us to be challenging for the play offs if we went down.

Personally. Think it might be a reset season. We will lose a few who get better offers and I think time would be right to move on Pelly,Potts,,,Shea etc
Think it might be a bit of a subdued first part of season myself.

The 3 in league one i think illustrate the process. Osho for example took his time to develop, but has developed into a premier league player.

But our recruitment does seem to be very very good. Peterborough couldn't believe they got as much as they did for Joe Taylor, but fair to say hes developed into a better player than they thought.

Who knows - we may yet stay up. Its unlikley but we arent done yet ...
