FA Cup Replays
Posted by Ramridge Raider on 19/4/2024, 20:44:27
I'm probably in the minority on this but I'm glad they scrapped the replays. Personally, I just found them tedious in a competition that has lost its value.
I also like VAR and Financial Fair Play. Both need work but far better than other options.
Again, a very minority view but I think the FA and Premier League have made some pretty good decisions recently.

Not trying to pick a fight as I'm pretty old school, but I don't get the resistance to progress.
Loved the eighties football, watching and playing, but life has moved on.

So the reduction in the amount of football the biggest clubs play means the PL will have an extra week off. How convenient that that is perfect for pre season tours of Asia or America! Also, the champions league clubs will be playing more matches, most of them meaningless. Meanwhile the smaller clubs who would traditionally earn the right for a pay-day replay get zilch - which only happens a few times a year but can and has been a lifesaver for quite a few clubs.
It's in line with the continued expansion of elite football to increase the money making output of the whole enterprise - TV and sponsorships included
I would personally be in favour of clubs announcing a boycot of the competition unless the reinstate replays, at least in the third and fourth rounds
Anyway, COYH

This isnt progress imo It is a delibrate attempt to close down the greatest cup competition on the planet. No other country comes close. This is to start establishing a European Super League by stealth via the Champions League, a mismatch of a name if there ever was one. FA cup replays will interefere with the new format of the CL and hence stopping replays. We should not be so fast to fall in to the argument of this is progress, it isnt and is detrimental to the lower leagues. It is a disgrace what they are trying to get away with tbh

Wow!
Not wrong though!
I heard Mark Palios on 5live earlier. He was excellent: calm, well thought through, respectful, but also not afraid to say it as it exactly is. He was great.
