Actually, there were plenty of positives to be taken from apart from maybe the last 10 minutes.

I went on a freebie to City v Real Madrid this week and noted that Doku - who tore us apart - made all the difference when he came on. (Madrid were all over City in the first half, City dominated thereafter). Maybe we should look at how well the walking wounded did for long periods of the game, following a disastrously unfortunate start?

Fully agree. The two late goals put a bit of a downer on things where otherwise we would have left feeling buoyed by Barkley's goal and Woodrow's effort against the bar. However tiredness was clearly a major factor by that stage

No complaints about the performance overall.
The one thing I did wonder about was the second goal. Kovacic struck it well but was given a huge amount of room. Did we allow our concentration to wander waiting for the corner to be taken, while the VAR review was underway ?

Was it the second goal where there was a long VAR check just before, I did wonder at the time as to whether we had switched off briefly due to that.

Agree totally on that goal - looked like a free hit, didn't it?

Burke (I think) almost got to him to block it. At the time I thought we'd switched off and left him free, but looking back I wondered if we deliberately left him on the edge of the area thinking we could charge it down. But a combination of the quality of the ball, a first time cracking hit and maybe slightly misjudging the amount of space we could allow meant he scored.

Well said Crumpsall, I thought our defending was magnificent in the first half, their goal was a complete fluke. Goals 4 and 5 came in the 88th and 93rd minutes, after we'd made substitutions. It wasn't like the Liverpool onslaught of minutes 55 to 75 at Anfield.

That Liverpool onslaught was something else, wasn't it. Actually sensational to be at. And again, great things to take away - leading at Anfield at half time included. There are games I certainly wouldn't want to watch again - Sheffield United at home, for one - but there's so much to be proud of, and enjoy, in seeing how a patched up team has performed against (allegedly) 'the best teams in the world'*

                    *they're obviously not!

Much as I'm loathe to say it, that Liverpool performance was one of the most impressive footballing experiences I've seen. Another huge positive for the season is how we've developed and evolved, I don't think we'd approach games like Brentford and Villa away in the same way now as we did last year. The result might not change, but the way we play would and it's a joy to see us do this.

The team were outclassed but the grit, character and determination was fabulous to watch.

Agreed, sadly those alone don't win you points at the level we're playing at.

                        No, sadly that's true enough.

But the games we've given some of these teams have been tremendous . . . Liverpool 1-1, Arsenal 3-4 and I will remember the way we tore Chelsea apart at the end at home and were so unlucky not to complete the comeback.
