If the league cup.....

If the league cup was only for EFL clubs could you potentially have a European FA cup style knockout competition for all top flight teams bar the those in the Champions League? You could have qualification rounds for the less developed leagues with the Premier, Seria A, Bundesliga, Liga Portugal, Ligue 1 etc... joining at a later stage.
The top Five would have less games as no league cup to compete in, also the teams that qualify for Champions League would not be in the European knockout out cup.
And it's not that they want to fewer matches. They want fewer matches where they don't get big TV money. And remember this cup competition rewards the winners with £100k prize money.
