Forest and Everton deductions/appeal
Posted by The Listener on 16/4/2024, 13:42:53
Just heard on a very well known national sports station that they heard from an "expert" that Everton and Forests appeals are a "free hit " and an the "expert" also said to the station that both Forest and Everton will get one point back from their deductions. Sounds very corrupt to me
Given the absurdly weak punishment given to Forest, I fully expected Everton to only be deducted one point the other week and was surprised at 2. I would expect them to get one back on appeal.
Absolute circus.
Forest... less sure. I think they should have considered themselves very lucky already and can't see why they would get any success on appeal.
As things currently stand 1 point back to forest means very little. They are already a point and a better goal difference better off than so we still need a win to catch them. Returning one point back will not change that. The caveat to this is that obviously we want them both absolutely slaughtered with increased points deductions for frivolous appeal.
Said the other day there appears to be no danger of them losing anything other than costs from appealing so it's a no-brainer.
Doesn't seem unreasonable to think either that the appeal panel will desperately want to be seen to having given them a fair hearing and give them something back. Particularly if it makes the difference between them being relegated as a result of points deductions and not.
No doubt they'll also be thinking that if the appeals aren't upheld the clubs may well look to pursue further legal action - that fat cunt at Forest certainly looks the type to do so if he doesn't get his own way.
Agreed, there's next to no chance the deductions will be increased.
I struggle to see why Forest would get any reduction. Possibly they will argue more that being in the Championship for 2 of the seasons should be a reason why the excess losses are considered less serious. But the first commission dealt with that point and the non-mitigated 6 points deduction they got seems lenient in comparison to Everton.
I suspect Everton will argue that 1 point reduction for the early plea and loss of Russian sponsorship combined was insufficient. Maybe also argue that they deserve some credit for cooperation.
I very much doubt if there's any real grounds for appeal other than "we didn't like the result" which, on the face of it, should see them laughed off.
But I reckon these clowns will fall for any old sob story; let it never be forgotten it was an "independent" commission that fell for pervy Pete's promises of football frenzy so I find it difficult to have any faith in them getting it right, or even close.
Yeah I think that's a real risk. The last few commissions though have at least been fairly consistent with each other so I'd hope that limits the scope for any reduction. But nothing would surprise me (apart from them increasing the penalty of course)
If Forest get relegated, presumably they will be arguing that it is only fair that they are limited to three years' losses at Championship limits - after all, it's only fair that they are competing on a level playing field with the other clubs in that division
