    Yesterday - European Super League

    Posted by Sepp's Bladder on 14/4/2024, 11:43:55

Come to the conclusion that European Super league would be a good move. Game yesterday was as boring for City fans as it was for us. Only entertainment was the 'banter' over the divide between bored men.

Same must go for Barcelona v Cadiz
    and Bayern v Koln

If they refuse to comply with fair play / sustainability rules let Man City, Liverpool & Arsenal go - Spurs, Chelsea & Man U can stay cos they are shite.

Yep, and the break has to be 100% clean, not even an under-10s game between an English team and any breakaway club. They will be effectively dead to English football.

The PL has been fantastic on the money front and hopefully we can get another couple of seasons out of it before the split comes, but the financial gap now is beyond a joke.

Btw if you get a ‘big club’ w@nker giving it #teamslikeluton shouldn’t be in the PL, just tell them English football is fukk all to do with them. Your club is off to Globo Super League, so worry about your £250 tickets, face paints and half/half scarfs. Now fukk off.

Off topic, I was watching French tv yesterday where they had a sports round up from England. They said city crushed Luton 5-1. To which pundit Ex france striker Dugarry said but Luton are still one of the best clubs in the world as they play in the worlds top league.

Never thought of it like that. Maybe we are in top 50. 17 better clubs in prem and big euro clubs.

Are we better than 14th places Sevilla or 10th placed fiorentina?

There wasn't a European Super League.*

The clubs involved wanted to replace the UEFA competitions, particularly the Champions League, not leave the EPL.

          *It will come though.

Yep - leave the EPL and go play wherever the 'franchises' are (Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Abu Dhabi, Saudi...).

For the average citee fan they must only get excited about 3 or 4 home games a season in the Prem. Shame for the old school fans cos they are squeezed out (go watch Oldham or Bolton), but good for us so we dont have to turn up as opposition at the exhibition games for corporate customers.

I tend to agree, but I think there needs to be a promotion and relegation aspect which is not easy to achieve with say 5 feeder leagues.

The whole reason why football works in this country is because of the pyramid.
Every club has the chance to climb out of the league they are in, or be relegated out of it.
If you remove that element out of it then what's the point.
This is what American owners don't seem to understand in particular. If they could move clubs they have taken over to another part of the country they would.
Take the Sky money out the equation then the likes of Man City would be bang average like they always have been along with Chelsea who are proving the point that they really are bang average.
The ESL hasn't gone away it's on the back burner whilst they figure out how to bring it back in.
I would say to the so called big 6 off you go but once you have gone you are not coming back. Then restructure the pyramid with a fairer distribution of money from top to bottom.
