    Alan Cook

An email is now being shown from Mary Fagan, a Post Office PR officer, dated from 2009 that flags to Cook how there is steadily building "nervousness" around the Horizon system.

Cook's reply is brought up on the screens next. In it, he expresses scepticism over reports the system was to blame for shortfalls: "My instincts tell that, in a recession, subbies with their hand in the till choose to blame the technology when they are found to be short of cash".

Cook looks mildly embarrassed as it is put to him at the inquiry and says it is an "expression I'll regret for the rest of my life".

What an absoluter whopper. They are all corrupt and are an absolute shit show. I'd close the whole fucking thing down and start again. I don't see how they will ever recover. People should get sentences for this shambles.

I agree this is the major story that shows the Post Office up as being an absolute disgrace, but watch out for the storm brewing over all the £5 postal surcharges customers have been forced to pay to receive their mail. I have a long running dispute with them, as they are trying to make out I used a counterfeit stamp. All my stamps come from Royal Mail official post offices or Sainsbury's, an authorised agent. The talk is that their new scanning system doesn't work consistently, and that some of their own branches have even been selling Chinese made counterfeit stamps ! Once again, the government asleep at the wheel, and spineless regulators. A major vital industry that should never have been privatised, just like the water companies !

I actually think they will, though maybe that really is me just being naive.

I'd also suggest, just as importantly, that Fujitsu should never be considered for another UK government contract. But there I do feel confident that they will be allowed to bid again within months.

Can we not instigate one of those online petitions which means it has to be considered by Parliament once sufficient signatures have been collected. Alternatively, the police need to get their fingers out and investigate properly

Historically Fujitsu were ICL (the only real British computer corporate) and they retain numerous Govt contracts dating back decades, even if they were excluded from new work they would keep these, and for many of those there wouldn't be any realistic alternative too them, so they'll remain making millions from UK Ltd for many years to come.

The problem with that is that honest Fujitsu workers may lose their jobs and as there are Fujitsu offices not far from Luton that could affect some amongst us.

                    Couldn't agree more.

But the Post Office will manage to find expensive legal teams for anyone that does get prosecuted, and no doubt one or two will also throw in the old Ernest Saunders "ill health" defence to get away with it.
