    Doughty Pelly 1st Goal

Posted by Winged Hatter on 3/4/2024, 22:19:39

Nothing wrong with that pass from Doughty.

Love Pelly too bits, but unfortunately that's just the little bit of premier league difference. A top quality midfielder takes it and turns away holding off the challenge.

If that ball is to Barclay - no issue.

I agree and not just Barkley but most players in the prem would have anticipated getting closed down and moved towards the ball.
Smith Rowe had committed himself and consequently should have been easy to go past.
We all make mistakes and at this level you get punished.
Anyone who has been on the “journey” has to love Pelly but he is now only playing because of our injury crisis.
In every job which is tiered the majority of us reach a ceiling …no different to footballer’s.

Doughty has lost his way lately. Got lots of early praise and not been the same since. Seems to throw a strop when people dont pass to him when making a run, and when others give the ball away.

One positive after the poor pass that put Pelly under pressure and resulted in him losing possession was that he appeared to learn from it and played more one touch football there after.

I agree if Zinchenko had played that ball to Rice or Ake to Rodri then it is retained no problem.
Barkley retains possession there probably 9 times out of ten as well. Pelly probably 7/8 times out of ten.
Smith Rowe was on him instantly, with 3 other arsenal players around, it was primed for a successful press. Just knock the ball down the line. Yes we probably lose it, but it's nearer their goal

Watch it again …when Doughty shapes to pass Smith Rowe is 10 yards from Pelly.
At this level you have to be able to read the game and anticipate…he did neither of those in this instance.
Also kicking aimlessly down the line after we had just won back possession may work on a Sunday Morning.

Good pressing by Smith-Rowe. Doughty doesn't play the pass if he's all over Pelly, so he sits back to encourage the pass and presses as soon as it's played.

It's more Pellys fault than anyone else's, and it'll be Robs instructions to play these passes so I'm not really blaming Doughty, I just think we need to show a bit more pragmatism at times

I don’t agree …look at the highlights on sky sports ( Google) .
Doughty had no out ball up the line …really poor from Pelly , think you are giving way to much credit to Smith-Rowe.

It was a totally unnecessary pass that Smith Rowe telegraphed early. Not a lot Pelly could have done about it.

There was no need to make that pass, why put Pelly under that pressure, it was a poor decision.

Well, not necessarily. Barkley lost possession at Newcastle directly leading to their 4th goal. Any player is perfectly capable of a lax in concentration especially given the gulf in players between us and most of the rest of the PL.

I've never seen any player have a lax in concentration.

What is a gulf in players?

You know what I mean. I'm tired.

A lapse in concentration. Gulf in class of the players.

There. That wasn't too difficult was it.

Barkley lost 2 similar to that one a few minutes before.
