Nike must be

Loving the free advertising they are getting for their shirts. Clearly good marketing, regardless of thoughts on the tiny motif.

Personally, I think it looks really great and like it lots - and I usually do not care much at all for Nike products. Years ago I remember watching a documentary about them, can't recall much about it apart from a strap line that they drilled into their ethos: make it cheap and sell it high. That was probably 30 years ago though.

Pile it high and sell it cheap was Jack Cohen the Tesco founder's philsophy in the early 60s.
Nike's certainly isn't about selling cheap. Quite the reverse. It's about creating a "value added" market in which they can ratchet up the sales price.
Though what the added value is precisely ? Bullshit presumably
Re: Nike must be
Posted by Godders on 22/3/2024, 14:50:00, in reply to "Re: Nike must be"
Yes exactly.
And the added value as you say is minimal. Don't get me started on moisture wicking nonsense; it's called evaporation!!!
Re: Nike must be
Posted by Wat Tyler on 22/3/2024, 14:56:29, in reply to "Re: Nike must be"
Moisture wicking is not evaporation. Wicking and evaporation are different processes, one happens so that the other can. Other materials are absorbing, making the second process harder.
Re: Nike must be
Posted by Godders on 22/3/2024, 15:31:48, in reply to "Re: Nike must be"
Moisture wicking is, essentially the same thing inasmuch as it draws sweat away from the body (heat) by natural scientific processes. Pretty much any oil based fabrics allow this such as nylon and polyester which is why sports clothing is made from such (cheap) fabrics. Cotton, on the other hand does hold moisture which is why it's been about 50 years since football shirts have been made from such fabric.
I will concede that some artificial fabrics allow evaporation better than others but essentially all nylon/polyester kits since the early 80s do it and it therefore is a load of nonsense.
Re: Nike must be

Wicking draws moisture via capillary action. Evaporation then can happen. Wicking is as much evaporation as sweating is.

The FA are getting it the neck and rightly so. They'll be looking at creating a diversion so we'd better be on are guard.

Maybe, but it is still drawing attention to the product. Most people don't make purchasing decisions, based on angry people on twitter. But a lot will be sucked in by the coverage on TV.

If they did this with the Italian kit they would be burning them in the streets. That’s why are England national teams in most sports huff and puff but don’t win much even though the individual players are better than their opponents.

If they did this with the Italian football kit they’d probably be sued by the Italian kit manufacturers Adidas. And that’s before we get to the absurd notion that England don’t win tournaments because Italian fans would hypothetically burn a football shirt when England fans wouldn’t.

It’s called pride in your country. The Scots beat us at rugby again. Not that they are better players. It’s because they give everything for their national team. Look at the Welsh when they sing land of our fathers. Let’s face it England has no real identity. We are just British really.

Bang on Kev, if only we had a few more St George crosses on our shirts we’d definitely have beaten Scotland.
Just like we beat Ireland. And of course Wales, even with their Land of my Fathers.

Population of England 56 million. Population of Wales 3.2 million. Population of Ireland 5 million. Massive rugby infrastructure in English Rugby. The Australians beat us at virtually everything and their population is less than half of England.

Perhaps you could explain why India and China don’t sweep the board at every sporting event

I’ve just realised you are an idiot. I’m sorry I responded. India and China. 99.5 % of the population are out of the equation. They spend 100% of their time trying to feed their families.
