Players looking tired?
Posted by Club Call on 14/3/2024, 22:35:30
Keeps getting wheeled out at the moment. How much truth is there actually in that? Of our 28 Premier League matches the player start stats for last night's XI show:
I would suggest that when you are winning you don't feel as tired as when you are losing. Especially if you have had a 3 goal lead and let it slip, it destroys you mentally. Most of our lads are Championship level so are having to push themselves physically and mentally to level others don't.
Well you don`t include sub appearances for a start. And yes less games than any championship side. But a greater intensity..well the way we play compared to others. And its nice to have the option of squad rotation. We dont have that. So its not only tired, but tired compared to other players..most of which cost a lot more, and who have the options of being rotated. Its all relative.
All I can say is they looked absolutely knackered last night, can’t see how they will get themselves right physically (and mentally) for Saturday but we’ll see. Your point about mentality is right though, Dan Burn was on the Monday night radio show and said it took him a couple of days to recover mentally from a game
It's a game of football. Tactically we buggered it up in the second half by not shutting the midfield down completely in the second half and marking Semenyo tight. We'll pick up on saturday with the supporters behind the team.

My view is that it is not just physically tiring, but more mentally fatiguing.
Concentration levels required for the PL are a major step up for most of that starting 11.
Same was true in our first season back in the Championship. Conceding late goals.
