    Groundhog Day

Those of us old enough to not be able to remember what had had for breakfast an hour ago have seen it all before! Yes last night was gutting, I haven’t been so deflated about us since the Blackpool play off debacle and yes it does feel like it probably was a pivotal moment in the negative but we can go again on Saturday and last night shouldn’t take away from the unbelievable season we’ve had. As for the criticism of RE, yes he was slow to react once they had scored but their comeback wasn’t inevitable at all, we had soaked up all sorts of pressure first half and been lethal on the break, there was reason to think that could’ve been repeated, parking the bus didn’t work early in the season and slowing play down didn’t work first half vs Villa, also the 2 best midfielders at facilitating that tactic are unavailable. It is what it is right now, would t be a surprise if we have now shot our bolt and Saturday doesn’t go well but ….. what a season anyway

Hindsight is easy of course but even last night I was surprised we made no changes at HT. Your point is valid - what changes do we make? Which then gets to the wider issue about the injuries and the squad. Nevertheless even at the very crude level I would say resting Barkley 2nd half could have made sense as he was already playing with broken nose and he is a defensive problem. Berry or even Pelly could have come on and sat a bit deeper. Similarly Chong who is really not the player you need in that situation - he turns over possession far too much could have gone off at HT.
Anyway he stayed on and go injured. That is 2 possible changes that based on simple empirical evidence of the players respective strengths could have been made. It is rare we are ever 3 nil up in a game but no doubt professional teams should never lose that sort of lead unless their heads have gone. In that case any change is better than none.

A most articulate argument Herts Hatter and I don’t disagree with you. I suppose another issue being overlooked by some is our ‘born leader’ type, Locks is no longer driving us on and through sticky patches, there is the potential for realistic criticism of the recruiting process in that area, yes we have made superb signings, yes the vast majority appear to be of good character, really committed to the club and manager, but, there is a chronic lack of leadership among the group, that was our Achilles last night as much as anything. Stay up or go down a couple of leader types will be high on the shopping list I’m sure

          Agree
... all this change tactics cries for the Outlaws experts ... why should we when the 1st half had gone so well. Yes maybe he should have reacted sooner but limited resources means limited reaction

Failed to react as we did against Sheffield U, Burnley etc etc.

Lack of investment in the squad and tactically naive will cost us

Yep itbose things probably will but to be honest who thought we’d get close enough for those things to be the issues!! I’m fairly glass half full but I was still expecting several 5 6 and 7 goal tonkings and didn’t think we’d have scored 4 and 3 in multiple matches! What a season!
