    Canal/Barge life.

Saw a programme yesterday about life on the canals.
Looked lovely, back in the day.
Stopping off at pubs must have been delightful, as you make your way up/down the canals.
A stress free life away from the city.

Lived on a canal boat in the late 70s for 4 years.
Would I recommend it? Yes if you like the quiet life and local community.

I am on a lot of boaters forums. Seems like these days there are as many problems on the water as off it - bureaucracy/increasing costs/anti social behaviour etc. I must admit some of the big wide body barges look great but very limited where you can take them. Narrow boats are a pain to live on in my opinion.

I remember as a kid having a half-term holiday on a canal/narrow boat. I absolutely loved it and would love to do it again but for an extended period of time, probably about a month. It's on my bucket list.

A mate of mine does it but he also gave up his job so just does craft stuff.

Recons getting up without the help of a clock is the best thing ever. Gets up early in the summer months and later in the dark winter months. He has one of those double width ones. it's quite impressive.

Cost wise he recons running his boat is equivalent to running a house so you still need to earn cash.
