This "not strengthening" in January bollocks

Posted by Nick NBH on 12/3/2024, 20:42:21

We signed a defender. we loaned out a winger (who wouldn't have played much even with the current injuries).

We kept back a squad space for Tom..maybe not the most sensible thing, but morally the right thing. And that can extend into team spirit. He may even get a last minute cameo in the last game of the season after we have stayed up. However beyond that space we had little room to bring in anyone who was over 21. And to be honest if we had bought someone in a striker would have been higher on most peoples agendas - we didnt have this injury crisis then.

As for being "foreseeable with the way we play"..still doesnt alter the fact we have a squad limit. Or that JJ would get ill when we need him

what bollocks, morally right. last minute cameo. It's not the dog and duck league. What next. If we get a penalty in the last game let the keeper take it ?
      Madness

Without wishing to get drawn into this again, calling Giles a winger is a bit of a stretch.

I wouldn't take Edwards at his word with it when he said that. My understanding is the club had concerns early into his career with us about him, and Edwards has to give a reason and isn't just going to come out and call him shit.

He was lb/LWB at Boro, and he's playing there for Hull. We played him there whenever he played and he was clearly signed to play that position as Edwards didn't trust Doughty to play a full game.

Giles turned out to be a poor fit/not what was needed for a team in a relegation battle/shit and Doughty came good.

          My view

And I stand by it as I called it out early on.

Is that he didn’t fancy us. His attitude and focus just looked miles off compared with our usual signings. Touch of arrogance, in a bad way.

He has looked a different player at Hull, a player who likes a few luxuries and didn’t get us at all.

It happens and we are better off without him, but we needed to replace rather than give away as a loan.

It's a LOAN, we haven't given anything away.

            You mean Giles?

            A “winger”?

And you playing far too much expectation on JJ.

And as much as we all want the best for Tom are you really suggesting that bringing him on for a minute trumps an opportunity to replace him and give us more chance of staying up?

Sentiment is fine in the right place but not in the Premier League.

I am sure Tom would much rather lead us out at Anfield next season than The Lamex.

I think you will find Nicholas, that Cuba predicted all of the above and would have single-handedly kept us up had he been in charge of recruitment (mainly through building the team around Dion Pereira).
