Just seen the pen at liverpool

Why wasnt City keeper sent off? .... if an outfield player makes that tackle it would be deemed reckless and straight red.

Probably because the attacker was moving away from goal. Not sure if there was even any contact, the player was hitting the ground come whatever.

If it was deemed reckless it matters not what direction the attacking player was taking, it should still have been a red card.

Well then the answer is it wasn’t deemed reckless and a gk does get different allowances.

Why does a GK get treated differently... Reckless is reckless

He’s treated differently primarily because he’s the only player allowed to use his hands.

That’s not what I said. If there was even contact it was deemed a genuine attempt to get the ball, which is within the laws.

I think we agree to differ... you seem to be saying for a keeper it was a genuine attempt where I am saying in these days of sweeper keepers that can play it was a reckless swipe at an opponent with no chance of getting the ball.

I actually agree with the general point you made about different treatments just that in this instance I’m not 100% convinced the striker wasn’t simply looking for the pen. That and the difference between a keeper and every other player meant not a red in my book.

The bigger picture is none of us have a clue from week to week what to expect in identical situations and that imho is ruining the game for no visible gain to supporters.
