    State pensions

    If the living wage is 22k, why is the state pension 10.6k?

    Disgusting

      A. Go to work for 50 years.
      B. Pay into a private pension.

          If you've been earning just £22k a year you're not going to be able to put much, if anything, into a private pension.

          22k before tax. Which brings it down.
          State pension is based on the assumption that the retiree has bought their house so have no mortgage or major outgoings. And that the state pension is a safety net not a retirement plan.

            I wanna know how the government propose to judge how much someone’s state pension will be worth if they do away with National Insurance...

            Another clueless idea thought out by this sham of a government.

                  Don't disagree - the number of people with no significant private pensions or savings is a ticking timebomb...
                  On the flip side individuals do have to take some responsibility help themselves as it's not all down to the government.

                        There is something to be said for the post war baby boomer generation having been a very fortunate generation;
                        Free university
                        Reasonable pension
                        House prices becoming a decent investment without even trying.

                        Yes there are downsides too but financially they've had it relatively easy compared to today's young adults.

                          Bear in mind tho..we had the Lawson chancellor 15% interest on mortgages..highest rate of repossessions in a lifetime..along with a full blown recession..so life was not all sweetness..too many moaning youngsters want it all for free

                        Always been worst in Europe, and under the Tories who raised retirement age it is not going to be worth much in the future .

                                Once National Insurance has been abolished then so will the State pension. It's the only mechanism that can measure an individual's contribution to his State Pension fund.
