    The Budget

Fair go Jezza, you twisted and twirled facts like putty.
Lowest taxation since 1974? According to all the figure and stats it's the highest since 1944.
He cites COVID and the Ukraine war on our economic woes, something unprecedented in modern times he says.
From 1900 to 2000 we had WWI WWII, Korean war, Suez crisis, Malay uprising, Aden, Mao Moa uprising, the Falklands war and Afghanistan.
Yet by 2008, our tax rate had dropped to it's lowest point since 1945.
How much longer is he going to milk COVID and the Ukraine?

Calm down, we're within touching distance of a Labour govt when everything you've been moaning about since 2010 will be fixed in a heartbeat. Assuming that Jihadi George doesn't nick those 50 seats of course.

                Keep all your ingredients chilled.
This rule doesn't just apply during summer—a kitchen can get pretty hot during a cooking spree, especially if ingredients are left anywhere near a stove. Other than keeping your butter cold, you can also refrigerate your flour—the key is to create an environment that prevents the fat (butter or lard) from melting before it’s cut in the flour, making for the flakiest pastry.

But fiscal drag will see plenty of pensioners with a decent private pension paying higher tax levels. Considering well-off old folks are big part of the Tories core vote, that’s not a great move.

I've been dragged in. All my like I've followed government rules, SERPS, AVCs on my company pension, never out of work. I make no claims on the benefits system and even pay for dental treatment.
Now I'm getting taxed for following the rules.

Surely if you have a Company Pension and the State Pension, you would have paid tax since the day you retired? Or,if you retired early, at least since you were paid the State Pension?

Almost certainly, however, fiscal drag means that a lot of folks are now paying 40% tax on some of their pension. No good the state pension going up by 5%, if you’re having 2% of the 5% taken in tax…

If my pension was that big then yes, but with the tax threshold being frozen my pension has risen to the point where it's taxed.
However, that's not really the point, I'm a widower with no dependents. Young families on low income are being sucked into the tax black hole, which will get deeper for the next four years at least.
At the same time , the earning limit for claiming any benefits is at £18500. That means that as each year goes by, those on low income move inexorably towards the cut off threshold, whilst the wages are attracting increasing tax on an annual basis and their disposable income, if any, correspondingly shrinks.
Now I can get by, they can't.
If you're a high earner, about £60k, this NI cut will put £1300 in your pocket. If you're on £29k it'll put £130 in there.

                                      Not necessarily.
It depends on the amount of your pension.

You're being captious as per normal.

If the guy has been saving into a Company Pension all (or most) of his working life AND paid AVC's he would certainly have been well over the tax threshold since he started taking both pensions.

This guy isn't going into figure, that's private, but my pension is not one of a company director, it's one of a bloke on moderate wages trying to ensure a comfortable retirement, and yes, from day one I paid tax, but I'm not sure what difference that makes, because whatever way you look at it, £12700 means that someone bringing in £13000 in pension now gets taxed. £13000 takes you outside of tax credits and any other benefits, so that's it. Likewise, as I pointed out in another post, those on low income are drawn into pay higher tax every pay rise, in addition to annual pay increases taking them closer to the £18500 cut off limit for benefits, another figure that's been frozen. Yes , children ease that burden with tax credits, but even the act of applying is tortuous.
However, it was prudent to cut Capital Gains Tax and give the wealthy more child benefit.
Worry about my astronomical wealth if you wish, but it's still the rich that gets the pleasure and the poor that gets the blame

Not would I dispute the gist of what you are saying - the 'fiscal drag' of not increasing the tax bands acts as a disincentive to save for a pension or to gain promotion to a higher paid job.

It was your comment that 'Now' you are paying tax as though it was a recent event that surprised me.

Just to clarify, official stats, not mine.

People earning more than £131,000 or between £32,000 and £55,000 win from the government's tax changes, but everyone else is paying more.

More that £131000. What was the Chancellor's words? Oh yes, ' The people with the broadest shoulders should carry the biggest burden'
Patently, one's shoulders start shrinking at the £131000 mark.

£10,600 a year lifting people out of poverty? 🤣

Yep likewise. And it’s a very deliberate ploy to leave tax bands unchanged so that it’s not possible to avoid paying more, unless you’re uber-rich like Sunak, where your income is derived from ‘wealth’ - dividends, capital gains on share sales etc. etc.

Overall tax burden is rising! Giving with one hand fiscal dragging away with the other. The end result is the majority of people are worse off. People realise that however Jezza tries to spin it.

And now the chancellor's side-kixk is on TV telling us our taxes are the lowest since 1975, even when confronted by a graph showing taxation at a record high
