    Last 5 games

We've scored 7, so that's really good, especially as we've played Liverpool away, Man City, Villa - all good teams.

We've let in 18. No good averaging scoring just over a goal a game if you're letting in 3.6 goals a game. Yes 10 of those were against City and Liverpool, but they don't score 4 and 6 past every team they play because teams adapt and actually try and defend in a way that is appropriate to the threats they face.

That run also includes losing at home to a poor Sheff U team and an average Man U team.

It's been a difficult run for sure, hopefully we can tighten up a bit now we've got some slightly easier fixtures and keep the goal scoring.

Over the last 10 games we've scored 19, including a fixture against Bolton and the Newcastle game. Downside is we've let in 24.

So 2.4 goals a game conceded. Slightly better but still high.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this other than were going to concede at least 1 which puts pressure on us to score more, and how many teams will we outscore in this league?
Tighten up in the next 5 and we've got a good chance but we need to figure out a way to close our games. And start games, as we've given teams a 2 goal lead in 4 of the last 5 games. We're making life difficult for ourselves and as Morris said, not doing the basics.

    Anyway, ramble over

It sounds like you've been facing some challenges defensively, which can definitely put pressure on your team to score more. Analyzing your recent matches, it's clear that tightening up defensively is a priority, especially considering the number of goals conceded. While facing tough opponents like City and Liverpool can be demanding, it's crucial to adapt defensively against all teams to secure better results. Considering the upcoming fixtures, it might be a good opportunity to focus on defensive strategies and maintaining consistency throughout the game. Starting strong and avoiding early deficits will be key, as it's evident that playing catch-up can be difficult. I loved this idea. I am also into games at times. My younger brother feels much better with apps and gadgets; he is a computer geek and technically savvy. So he suggested I would benefit from bharat club as there is a fine selection of games. He specially recommended sports games and asked me not to erase his club invite code upon registration.

Fair points, though I suspect we are not actually conceding that many more chances than we did when we played more defensively against top teams, eg against Spurs at home. They could have wrapped it up inside the first 15 minutes.

But I do think we're losing a bit of perspective "An average Man United team". I know what you mean but hell's teeth they are sixth in the Premier League. Hardly pushovers.

That spurs game is another 'what if'

Yes they blew us away first 15 (another example of how poorly we start games) but they played 45 mins with 10 men.

We're second behind Sheffield U for most shots conceded across Europe.

Yes exactly but I wonder if the reason we're playing more open is that it pushes the ratio of chances conceded to chances created more in our favour overall?

We are giving it a real go but need to find a way to tighten up and grind out results.

First half, I was very surprised that Burke kept popping up in midfield. It left Mengi one on one with Watkins for large periods.

I know we like our 'innerlapping' centre halves, but there is a time to sit deeper and sweep behind Mengi.

We need to find a way to play well in both halves of a game

The plan seems to be to leave Mengi one on one with whoever the main striker is.
Osho was doing it as well for a bit.

At one point in the first half yesterday we had Doughty and Burke both in midfield with Clark and Barkley in attacking mid and Mengi on Watkins. I know Doughty was out of position at CB but it's no wonder they were just walking through.

As you say, we need to be more adaptable, maybe sacrifice an attacking position and have Burke stay back and one of the midfielders drop

I felt for Mengi first half. He looked a bit shell-shocked but fair play to him, he bounced back second half.

I would like to see him getting a bit more help. He's a young lad and personally I think we are asking a bit too much of him.

It's like 82-83, when we tried to tighten up at the back we stopped scoring ourselves as well.

We never really solved it then either until we signed Steve Foster.

Agree Ramridge Raider he was left on his own first half. No help !from fellow defenders.

What gets me is the ball watching from our players. First goal no one marking and third goal no marking. This is costing us at the moment.
But we never gave up keep fighting. 3 well important games coming up.
