Ignoring the scoreline I don't think we played that badly.

Johnson looked good, composed, good on the ball and he didn't look out of place.

Ogbene didn't try and take a man on all night, he kept cutting in and going for the simple pass - carrying an injury perhaps? Barkley and others looked reluctant to pass it to him.

The first thing Hashi did was take his man on and go for the touchline. We'd been missing that all game. I thought Hashi did well as well, could have been a bit stronger in some challenges but overall he looked good.

Clark definitely grew into the game - I thought he had an awful first 20, but ultimately two well taken goals.

Chong looked good, his pace in the middle is an asset.

Mengi was hung out to dry by the tactics today. I want to keep this post positive but it was naÔve to the point of stupidity to keep it 1v1 with haaland. There are few, if any, defenders that are quicker and stronger than him and could reliably be left 1v1. Mengi has been quality and I don't think really any blame can be put on him today. Edwards has to set us up better to deal with Haaland. At least he's learnt it now and not in a league game.

We've gone from too passive to too aggressive. We're conceding loads of early goals and giving ourselves too much to do. We've shipped about 30 against in the last few games. We're missing a defensive midfielder and perhaps need to think about leaving someone to help cover when we lose the ball.
I thought we gave them too much time in the middle to pick a pass but again, we have two central midfielders, they had 3 plus the full backs and a defender in the middle so it was always going to be a losing battle.

Man City are great to watch tbf, direct with the ball, not scared to run at players and theyve got the quality for the final pass.

We're not far from being a good side at this level. Stop the defence letting in 4 goals a game and we're golden.

I didn't intend this post to be a negative, just my thoughts, and I left having enjoyed a game of football that had a lot of quality.

Final word: Anthony Taylor, what a cunt. That offside advantage he played was possibly the worst bit of officiating I've seen. Also when he didn't give a foul when Morris was dragged down but gave City one for the same thing moments later.
    Bellend.

Still think we miss Brown far more than anyone has stated.

Brown and Townsend playing together with Eli up top seemed far more secure and helped keep the ball in areas where teams couldnít as easily counter from.

Since Andros signed his new contract has he started a game?

As I posted previously, but you ignored, when you last posted that we had played 5 games with Brown and Townsend starting and 5 games without them starting after Brown got injured. In the Brown/Townsend games we won 1 more point, scored 1 fewer goal and conceded 1 more goal. Itís not as simple as one player being out making the difference

Yes I did read that but was probably banned for having a different opinion to CF so couldnít reply.

I take your point but I just think we looked more secure in the second half of November through to when Brown got injured and Andros was dropped.

Brown is out for the season but maybe time for Andros to come back at the weekend and play instead of Woodrow.

So I take it you are happy with the central defensive situation??

I think we deserve some explanation on how we can be down to the bare bones, particularly after losing our captain in the way we did.

Did GS really think we had enough to absorb that loss over the course of 23 games??

                        I said three signings.

A central defender, which last week you agreed with.
Replacement for Marv and cover for Ross and Sambi.
A third striker who can contribute at this level.

Once Giles went I then said and hoped he would replace like for like.

I canít see how anyone would disagree with the first two suggestions and I am unhappy that the club allowed Locks and Marv to not be replaced.

Plus on the day of our biggest game of the season, and a real must win, the CEO writes in the programme that we came up short in the transfer window, when previously the manager had said we would exit the window stronger.

I wonít have people misleading me or our fans and that statement felt poorly timed on such an important day.

Donít gas light loyal fans who deserve to know why we fell short and didnít do what was so obvious.

I guess the problem is that covering these would have cost a lot of dollar, assuming players wanted to come for a relegation fight, and we donít want to be loaded with these costs in the likely event we get relegated

So why say we will end the window stronger when that was never likely to be the case.
It builds expectations and when that doesnít come off it knocks confidence.
The clubs mixed messaging around the window was appalling and that needs to be addressed.
Plus the crazy decision to allow your record signing go without any direct replacement.

Iím not worried about Giles going, one of the joys of following a football club is seeing players rise from the academy and it has given JJ his chance. I donít pay much attention to what managers say, they are doing their best in a (much) increased media spotlight. I was distraught when Peter Anderson left but that experience taught me that life, the club etc go on.

Agreed with virtually all that except the bit about city being great to watch. I disagree. I think they're boring and pedestrian. Play at a leisurely pace pulling defenders out if position then then playing in the killer pass a d bang, a goal. It's all too predictable but they're genius at it.

That's the reputation they have but not how they played tonight. They played with pace, power and intricacy.

Without a holding player there was untold space but they exploited it repeatedly. They were excellent.

They were clinical with their finishing
With a bit of luck , we could have scored 4

Mengi had a great game , but City were just too good

Weíre very likely to get 0 points from away games at Man City and Arsenal regardless of what tactics we use. Spurs could be a thrashing or could be a win, they are inconsistent.

But in the games we can realistically get something from we need to stay in the game first and foremost. We have the quality to score goals without being gung ho. I hope there is a bit of a review of the tactics. We can do this but with our best defensive midfielders absent we need to adapt.

                          Yes, agree.

These early goals are a concern. We're giving ourselves too much to do.

Imo going 1v1 is fine if we need a goal or the opposition have no pace up front but otherwise we need to have a midfielder screening to pick up loose balls. Perhaps it means a sacrificing one of the attacking mids, or telling one of the centre mods not to move too much

We don't have the players for it now unfortunately.

Unless Hashi goes to RB and bell to lb with Osho and Mengi, but all out other wing backs are too attacking to play full back

Disagree, all players have come from teams that consistently played/play 4 at the back and are good enough to convert back. We are quite an outlier when it comes to playing with 3.

It was enjoyable for about 7 minutes after half time. When there is such a gulf between 2 teams in the same division, itís not fun. Football is broken because of state owned clubs (amongst other things). I honestly wouldnít be bothered if the big 6 joined their European super league and left the rest of us to it.

You really are deluded. No humour, no wit, nothing of interest to say, dull football insights.

You are many things, but sharp is not one of them.
