    Ref Watch

    2 from the Liverpool forum:

"The catalyst was a raft of shite decisions that went against us, followed by not giving the penno, followed by a clear foul on our player which the ref gave to them. Everyone went bezerk.

I think the ref won us the game by being such a cheating c*nt. If he'd reffed fairly and decently then it would have been a damp squib that Luton may have won."

"Thought the ref was absolutely fine, let our pressing game flow nicely and wasn't intent on being the centerpiece. I'd go as far as to say he's been the best I've seen all season."

You can’t blame a 4-1 defeat on the ref but I thought he had a shocker. Booked Alfie for nothing in the first few minutes of the game when a talking to would have sufficed then proceeded to let two blatant fouls go for Liverpool in the next 15 minutes, both far worse than Alfie's infringement. I picked up on some of that mistrust in the ref from Luton players too and none better exemplified than in the final minute of the first half when after a challenge on the edge of the penalty area (the ball clearly coming off a Liverpool player) Thomas Kaminski could not afford to risk the ball just running out of play for fear of the ref giving a corner. He had a shocker I thought.

Incidentally I did hear someone remark before the game (I was there, this comment was from a neutral in the pub before the game) that Virgil van Dyck is ‘the best referee in the Premier League’. If you’re a Liverpool fan, obviously.

Was the penalty they are meaning when it hit Osho on the back? If it did touch his arm at all it barely scraped it when he was looking the other way.

They like an overdramatic appeal. I'm still pissed off with not celebrating Chong's goal at home properly as I thought the way they appealed for the penalty there must have been something in it.

It definitely hit his arm - but in a natural position as close to his body as you are going to get. Never a penalty.

We are too honest sometimes and don't take a yellow or appeal like mentalists for almost everything - very noticeable.

If he was the best I’d love to see the worst

He will probably appear at our next home game!

Thought he was poor, gave them lots of 50/50s and let them away with a couple of shirt pulls where when when did it resulted in a yellow
