    Mentality on here..

Get show down for daring to say we should have reinforced in January, yet the next post states if Longos out, we should be playing Burke or Osho in centre mid rather than Berry or Pelly who are clearly not good enough!

Dave , I didn't shout you down I asked you to name replacements for Pelly and Woodrow who were affordable, prepared to join a club in a relagation battle and better than Pelly and Woodrow. You have not been able to identify any potential signing which I suspect is what the problem is.

Matters not whether he can or cannot name replacements for those two, fact is we are stuck with what we've got until the end of this season and it's up to Edwards and his team to get the best out of them.

Whether he can do enough to stave off relegation remains to be seen but at the moment, with the injuries we have, he's got one hell of a job on his hands.

Obviously I can name a exact player but its extremely hard to believe that their isnt a player in the championship, league 1 or europe that is a better option than likes of pelly or woodrow, as a example...

We have done it before, Chong, Giles, Eli, Clark, Osho, Ogbene, all came from clubs below us and not for massive money

So your logic says that because we've performed miracles before we should be able to do it at the drop of a hat? Cool!

Do we sign them now? Transfer window not applicable to us?

And if he did identify one then should he have written to the club? Theres nothing wrong with what Dave said. Woodrow isnt good enough, neither is Pelly. We are now light on players for positions and this will put alot of pressure on the team.
We had our chance in the transfer window and let it go by. Noone is saying spend the lot but to invest a bit more to give us a greater possibility of staying up would be way more profitable in the long run.

I take your point Dave that there is good value in the lower leagues. Eli was I believe the only one we brought in January. Others all out of contract or new season signings. Start of August

Eli was brought as a development player and made first team much quicker than anticipated.

I understand what your saying but if no better than Pelly or Woodrow no point. Also January window is widely regarded as much harder to operate in than August

Why do you think a casual football fan would know the ins and outs of who is and isn't available, and what they would cost?

Knowing this is literally a multi million pound job in some cases. We have an entire department of people whose job it is to know this info.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to ask it as a response to the statement 'we should've reinforced'.

Sweet has said it's a very difficult market, and no one was really available at the right price so we have to take that as the truth, but was is obvious to even a casual observer is that we are light in certain areas. What isn't obvious is who is available to replace.

                  Re: Mentality on here..

'We have to take that as the truth'. Exactly.

There are loads of clubs out there with owners that have very dubious motives for owning a football club (See Forest, Burnley, Sheff U, WBA, Blackburn, Sunderland etc, etc). Their fans, rightly question decisions and motives.

We know our Board only have the interest of the club at heart. So therefore I would never question the honesty or integrity of the board. Of all the debate around transfers, loans etc, none if us are privy to the facts behind it - the board are.

Therefore, I trust their decisions and the motives behind them. Doesn't mean though that they will get every decision right or cannot be questioned.

I also appreciate they cannot always be totally transparent about things. Could you imagine Gary Sweet coming out and saying 'we've loaned out x because he has a shit attitude'.

If Sweet and RE say we tried to strengthen in Jan, I totally believe them. I also totally believe their point that they didn't see value in the marketplace.

But the whole point of the recruitment team is to find our type of player, so if attitude was the reason then itís quite a big issue and a failing.

Coupled to the fact the the lad from Japan hasnít been seen.

So also tell me what the recruitment team were doing from the point Marv and Tom became unavailable?

This isnít a dig at GS or the board but we have about 30 back room staff and between them we couldnít find players and we pick up far too many injuries.

Never heard so much bullshit in my life.
So, the market doesn't provide a player that's not good enough, or not overly expensive, or one that isn't a d1ckhead and it's the fault of 30 members of staff - which we don't have anyway and of the 24 ft staff we have approx 19 have bugger all to do with recruitment!

The number of brainless idiots on here is deeply concerning. Bottom line is, whatever team we had out in that second half Liverpool, on that performance would have wiped us away. Full farking stop!

Yes whatever team wouldn't have beaten Liverpool but better options that ie cauley and pelly would give us a much better chance against Villa!

                          Re: Mentality on here..

Posted by Shandy King on 22/2/2024, 15:52:36, in reply to "Re: Mentality on here.."

                          I disagree with you.
                          Rob disagrees with you.
Kyle and Trollope disagree with you.

First half Cauley was very good. Liverpool's second half perfomance was so good that I think you should just give up trying to pick someone to blame.

Posted by Dave on 22/2/2024, 18:01:13, in reply to "Re: Mentality on here.."

Dont you get im not talking about last night but what lies ahead...games that are possibly winnable will be far harder if Pelly and Cauley are playing instead of Eli and Lokonga. My point for the 100th time, is I cant believe with the time we had before January that we didnt line up reinforcements in case these got injured.
It was mentioned many times on here the risk if either barkley or lokonga or eli or morris got injured we would struggle. As soon as we knew the extent of Nakamba being out, we should have made this a priority not a centre back who weve loaned back to Reading when we have suitable cover in that position as shown with Burke and Mads available (not now in case of Mads)

                    ďAt the right priceĒ

Everything had become more expensive, itís the way of the world.
I just hope we donít think we can rely on grabbing only the bargains in future. Other clubs will be watching us far more closely as happened with the Abbey deal.

No not if he thinks he won't start and is moving yo a club with high chance of relegation.

He may yet end up at Forest on better terms
