    Approach to FA Cup game

Posted by Sandgrounder on 21/2/2024, 22:52:38

With injuries starting to accumulate, I donít think we can go all guns blazing with the first team in this one. Itís frustrating that the 5th round is midweek but we need everyone possible available for Villa, which is a realistic chance of points. Wouldnít let Kaminski, Mengi, Barkley, Doughty, Sambi or Adebayo (even if the latter 2 are fit) anywhere near the starting line up.

Why not give it a go in the cup. We could nick a result in a one off game. We've got as much a chance of that as we have getting points off Villa. I'd rather win the FA cup and go down than go down and not win it.

Also we've given ourselves no choice but to play a strong team.

Let's say doughty, Sambi and Adebayo are all either injured or rested. We then play Bell LWB which means Mengi has to play as our only other fit CB is Burke.

If Lokonga is out and we rest Barkley then we're playing Man City with a midfield two of Pelly and Berry or Clark, which doesn't fill me with confidence, as good as those players have been for us.

If they are fit then they probably have to play through lack of alternatives

The problem is be donít have a Hughes, Rees, Pembridge, Farrell, Nogan, Harvey, Johnson R, North M, North S, Thomas, Johnson M etc to bring in from the stiffs.

Moreover almost all the strongest development players are out on loan in Tiers 4 and 5.
