    90s Luton and Scott Oakes

Posted by Rob on 19/2/2024, 12:10:20

Hi all, Palace fan here in peace with a very random question for anyone old enough to have a been watching Luton in the early/mid 90s.

My very first memory of football was at my grandparents' house watching a televised Luton Town game in the early 90s. It was a time when ITV (maybe LWT whatever it was called then - I called it channel 3) showed league football on weekends and I guess was early Premiership days so perhaps around 1992 or later. I assume it was a Sunday.

I think Luton won and I'm pretty sure you were playing at home but my main memory is that Scott Oakes was won man of the match as a young player and possibly scored (or assisted) one or two.

Other than that, I'm kind of at a loss. Not much to go on but does anyone remember those days or somehow from that work out what game it might have been? I'd love to know.

    Thanks!

What about the Derby wondergoal goal in 93. I think that may have been live on tv.

That header by Benjamin was actually the better goal in my opinion. Not taking anything away from Oakes!

My best memory of Scott Oakes was his hat trick in the 1994 FA Cup game against West Ham - amazing performance!

Extremely talented player, with all the ability but not the passion if I remember David Pleats words correctly!

Sounds about right, I bumped into him in the Warden Tavern when we were right in the middle of an end of season relegation scrap. I asked him how he thought we would do and his reply was that he had just signed a new contract and that was all he was bothered about. Went off him after that.
