That defensive tackle in the second half was absolutely outstanding.

Enjoy watching him whilst we can as I'm sure he's destined for bigger things.

          +1

Said in the pub after that it's only money only that talks - team spirit, sense of belonging, fans, etc don't count.

Dreyer staying was the last time a player stayed for non money reasons?

You think the only thing our players give a shit about is money? And team spirit means fukk all?

After everything that we've seen and that's been said for years?

Obviously money is important but I think you're talking bollocks to be honest

So, whatever one player does or doesn't do, that defines footballers', in general, motivation?

You think we've got 4 promotions without team spirit and with some players maybe sacrificing short term gain for longer term (bonus) gain?

You've just, basically, come out with something that undermines everything we've achieved this last 10 years.

If Lokonga couldn't give a shit he's got a funny way of showing it

You're second guessing, badly, putting words into my mouth and wandering off topic so I’ll leave it with this - Arsenal, Lokonga’s agent, his ambition, his family and his financial future won’t be overridden by team spirit.

Got to say I think you've got that badly wrong there, I agree with Music Critic.
Or example have you not listened to the recentLuke Gurridge interview?
He had several better offers financially than the Luton one but chose theirs for footballing reasons.

A lot of clubs would love the commitment from their permanent players that we get from Lokonga, and in fairness most of our loan players in recent years

In some cases a footballer stays for the club, sure.

I think there's truth in both.

Realistically Barkley and Townsend both joined initially because we were the only club offering them premier league football. Townsend isn't getting any younger and likes it here, and doesn't want to rock being without a club again so was happy to sign a long term contract.
I'm surprised Barkley signed a multiple year contract and I can see a world where he stays if we go down, but equally if any prem club came in with a bid, decent contract and playing time then he'd be off.

Lokonga is here because he was shit by all accounts at Palace but Arsenal need him to play if they want to get any money for him. He'll stay in the Prem at somewhere like Fulham.

Berry and Potts are here because the club rightly wants to keep a core. They also know they're not getting Premiership (and perhaps Championship) football anywhere else. Pelly has wanted to leave for a few years and I think he'll be gone in the summer.

Guttridge was at the end of his career and I suspect was happy to trade money for a decent changing room and some success.

Basically, I think both are true but for younger players particularly, money is the driving factor. It's a short career

It's a short career and the vast majority of players have to earn as much as they can while they can. Most would move on for more money, all you can hope for is they give their best while they are here. Lokonga is giving his best which will likely attract higher wage offers from richer clubs or even a restart at Arsenal.I wouldn't expect him to be here next season, if he was then brilliant, if not, thanks, and we try to find another one.

He has a point. If we wouldn’t have got promoted this year, we would have lost the spine of the team, they were like have moved for bigger pay cheques and not because of the team spirit. NJ.loved our club but wanted more money/bigger spotlight, players are the same. I even think Locks would have gone.
