If I met him..shake him by the hand and thank him for the good work he did

Got us out of L2. Built the side that got us out of L1. Earned us a load of money leaving. Came back and saved us when it looked impossible. Took us from survival to mid table to playoffs in two seasons on a shoestring. Build the squad and team that essentially got us promoted. Earned us another fortune leaving again.
The guy has arguably done as much as any manager since Pleat.
May be odd. May not be likeable. But his place in our history is massive.
I wish him luck. The time was right for both parties to leave. We needed a fresh outlook and he wanted a new challenge. We benefitted in the long run.

I agree too. Up there will Sir John Still as being responsible for getting us out of non-league and to where we are now. It was just the timing and method of his departure(s) that pissed me off.
It's like being dumped without warning by a partner after a great relationship, then finding out they'd been courting another (considerably more wealthy) partner behind your back.
Then taking them back after that relationship turned sour. Just when you thought your relationship could move to another level, they dump you for another (considerably more wealthy, again) partner.

If other companies offered to quadruple your wages, and offer you a much higher platform in which to work, would you decline?

Managed Luton twice, improved the club both times.
Good luck to him.

He did a good job for us and left for a massive pay rise, as anyone would do. Remember we sacked John Still after all he did for us - any manager is 6 defeats in a row away from getting sacked, so they need to take opportunities as they come.
Charlton are my second team (grandfather's team) so I hope he does well there.

Wouldnt trust him, however, got us promoted to L1,saved us from relegation to L1, then we got about £5 million in compensation. I'd say we did OK out of him.

Exactly, he did a cracking job for us both times. Would certainly have gone down had he not come back.
People need to get over it.

He made a decision which most probably gives his family financial security for the future. Most of us would do the same if given the chance in our professional careers.
Can’t fault him for what he did for us 2nd time round.

A big part of our climb. Will always be appreciated by real Luton fans. 2020 needed him and he benefited from 2020. Marriage that worked. He's not as good as he thinks he is but he was definitely good enough for us on both occasions.

He couldn't possibly be as good as he thinks he is. Hope he goes to Charlton we will find out how good he is there, can't blame PL prima Donna's rocking the boat.

I find the hate for him from Luton fans completely bizarre. He'll have them back in the Championship in no time.

Agreed, he had an opportunity of Premier league football and took it, served us well, didn't like how he did things first time around but kept us up on his second coming. Had he not come back, would we have got out of league 1? He must be kicking himself now though, seeing us In the Prem giving it a good go.

not everyone hates ,most of us appreciate what he did for us...
would we have have got to the premiership with him in charge? not so sure myself but we benefited when he took over, on both occasions....

Agreed, the way that he went to Stoke left a lot to be desired but with the kind of money they and Southampton will have parted with for him almost anyone would have left to join them.
He's certainly found it tough away from us but with the success he had with us he was always going to want to try it at bigger clubs.

It'll be the kids on here mainly. Youngsters that are learning to deal with getting dumped by a girlfriend for the first time and struggling. Any grown ups feeling anything but appreciation for the bloke just never got over that first dumping

He was the right manager at the right time As RE is the right manager now I would love to see NJ get the right gig With all his energy he must be driving his family mad doing f all atm No need to be hard on him or ourselves

Kinnear got bumped by Gurney, Mick went too, could you blame him, and what the hell has working at MK got to do with it? You really need to s ratch that itch and get rid. They're L2 nonentities
