You can get there by train via Sheffield by EMR and the Crosscountry to Newcastle, journey planners won’t give you the route yet as it’s quite long winded so you’ll need to work it out for yourself

My mates were travelling on the friday and are now looking at MK to Carlisle then across to Newcastle, bit of a faff but surprisingly cheap for a one way.

The number of services running and the journey times were already severely impacted by weekend engineering works. Strike days tend to have knock on impact on early services the following day. May not be a good idea to rely on that early service.
In any event because of the planned changes bookings were likely to be high beforehand.

Doubt there'll be a lot of room.

Fucking mess getting around the country these days.

Oh BTW thameslink on strike 30th Jan . Not sure whether this means no trains or reduced service.

They already said they will keep striking until the election which is probably October time, not political though.

                          6% for doctors.
                          7.2% for the MPs.

Well at least the train operators will be made to go to the table and negotiate a workable deal. Instead of being indemnified by the Government with our money.
The offer made cannot work because it has major changes to terms and conditions but the T&C’s are different in each company.

Or maybe they’ll let the TOC’s negotiate with the unions. The current government won’t.
