    Half term assesment….

Posted by Frog Hatter on 13/1/2024, 9:30:08

We have a Prem quality midfield with Barkley and Lakonga, defence is well organised and keeps things tight, Doughty is top draw - we are only missing that bit of quality to put games to bed when we are on top.
With one up top the emphasis is on Ogbene and Townsend to make the difference and I think they will improve - they have amazing service form Barkley. Priority transfer is a RWB so that we can keep Ogbene up top and leave Doughty on the left.

Not sure how one clean sheet is “keeping things tight”, we concede a lot of scrappy goals. As a team as a whole, including the management staff, we are unused to having the amount of possession we now do and need to find a way to use it to create more scoring opportunities

Bell seems to take time to get up to speed and to me is getting better again each game (excellent last night ) and he did the same last season.
Hopefully a few mistakes he has made now eradicated…

            Very good point on possession.

Other clubs may be letting us have more of the ball if they realise we don’t make/take enough chances

Perhaps Clark can fill the RWB spot, so that we can play Ogbene further forward.

We have premier league survival in our hands and you talk about playing someone out of position.

We MUST strengthen in three key areas.

We won’t be playing Burnley every week.

You've been banging on constantly for two years about how the club MUST do this, or MUST do that.
And every time you moan, you get proven wrong and end up looking like a prize prat. You sound entitled.

Have your opinion, fine. But please can you refrain from repeating it again and again and again and again.

Why not just be happy about getting a last minute equaliser in a six pointer?

I am delighted. And if I keep banging on about this and that (and get it wrong) and we stay up I will be ecstatic.

Point remains is that the best chance of that means we need three new faces in to strengthen the squad.

Have you got a spare 100 million to give to the club you do realise it's not just transfer fees. The type players you prattle on about earn more in a week than most blokes earn in a year.we do not generate that type of income.

Absolutelybloodyexactly- find a striker and we will survive.

                    Plus a RWB.

And a centre back. If we could find someone who could play CB and RWB then that would be ideal.

Posted by Cigar Chap on 13/1/2024, 10:37:03, in reply to "Re: THIS"

If Burke gets fit and we don’t loan Abbey back to Reading you could argue that we have enough cover a CB.

As Abbey is young he doesn’t need to be named in the squad.

                            Re: THIS

Posted by Sandgrounder on 13/1/2024, 10:50:08, in reply to "Re: THIS"

Doubt Abbey is ready to step up immediately - he doesn’t make our first 11 better. And most of our centre backs are injury prone. So even if they are all available now they probably won’t be until the end of the season. Some premier league experience / quality at CB would be great, we still concede a lot of soft goals.

                              Re: THIS

                              Perhaps the player from Spurs?

                              Assuming he is fit?

This finding a striker thing is easy to point out but as alot of managers say, January is a hard transfer window to the the quality they need. The Japanese boy at Celtic looks good but I should imagine he'd cost a few quid although playing up here his wages won't be massive I'd imagine.
