    Train Station

    Posted by Old Black&White on 11/1/2024, 18:48:50

Picking up on the continual “ Luton is Shit” threads
The Crowning Turd that shows the terminal decline of the town has to be the Station.

The lack of investment on this station was Highlighted by a Disabled Luton Supporter who travels to home games from Bedford, who I spoke to on the train after a game a few years back.
Basically he had to get off at Parkway, and get a taxi back to the Station.
And then the reverse to get home to Bedford.
The train company had to pay for the Taxi.
    All because of no lifts.
St Albans, Harpenden, have all had them.

    Absolute disgrace, still nothing…

For starters it's railway station but apart from that Railtrack own most of the stations but larger ones are owned by the Train Operating Companies such as King's Cross owned by LNER but actually that's a rubbish example as they're now government/state owned so I'm not quite sure on that one but hopefully you get the point. As such I'm not sure wether Luton is large enough to be owned by EMT, Thameslink, or Railtrack.

You just typed lots of words. It doesn't actually mean anything.

I don’t fully understand how these things work, but the train station seems to be more a national government issue than the council?

I do think it’s mad though the amount of investment that has gone into the airport with the Dart etc, yet the town’s main station is literally falling apart.

Could it not be a condition that if the airport is to be expanded further, they pay some money towards updating transport infrastructure across the whole town? After all, people who live in Luton do work there.

Yes, I think it’s the company that own the Infastructure( used to be Railtrack?)

In the case I mentioned, I would bet, that the Train Operating company claims the money from Railtrack !

Either way as a “Gateway to the Town, it’s a bloody disgrace, how it’s been left to rot.
If I was tech savvy, I could upload a small picture of me on the platform at Luton, with my Mum, waiting for a train to our annual Holiday to Weymouth taken in 1961…. It still looks the bloody same( apart from a Steam Train in the Background!

There was a nice bar at the south side of the station selling draught Bass from Burton on Trent.

St Albans and Harpenden were given Tory grants.

Luton got punished if I am correct.
